He is best known as the host of the news and commentary show Anderson Cooper 360°, which airs on the Cable News Network (CNN). Cooper was born on June 3, 1967, in New York City, New York, United States. After graduating from Yale University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Arts in political science.

Cooper found work as a fact-checker for Channel One News in 1990. This was a news show that was aired in many middle schools and high schools throughout the United States. During this period, he provided his coverage of the political unrest in Myanmar (also known as Burma) by forging a press pass and traveling to Southeast Asia. These news segments were shown on Channel One, which eventually appointed Cooper as its top foreign reporter.

In 1994, Cooper started his career in journalism by becoming a reporter for the American Broadcasting Company (ABC). He later became a coanchor for World News Now’s overnight news show on ABC. In the year 2000, Cooper resigned from as a news reporter to be the presenter of the reality television program The Mole on ABC. In 2001, he returned to work in the news industry, this time as a reporter for CNN. In 2003, he was promoted to the anchor of his show, Anderson Cooper 360°, while continuing to make regular contributions to CNN’s Newsnight. In 2005, Cooper captured the attention of people around the country with his vigorous reporting on the destruction that Hurricane Katrina wreaked along the Gulf Coast of the United States.

Cooper investigated chances in other television networks while CNN still employed him. From 2011 to 2013, he hosted Anderson (later Anderson Live), a syndicated daytime chat show. In 2007, he started working as a regular contributor for the news program 60 Minutes, broadcast on CBS. Cooper is also the author of several books, the most notable of which are The Rainbow Comes and Goes A Mother and Son on Life, Love, and Loss (released in 2016 and co-written with Cooper’s mother) and Vanderbilt: The Rise and Fall of an American Dynasty (published in 2021 and co-written with Katherine Howe).

Anderson addressed his life away from the camera in the book “Dispatches from the Edge” (2006); in 2012, he spoke to the world about his sexual orientation. The year 2016 saw the release of the documentary titled Nothing Left Unsaid: Gloria Vanderbilt & Anderson Cooper. Additionally, Mr. Cooper anchored a significant portion of CNN’s live coverage of the sniper story in the D.C. region as well as the range of the explosion of the Space Shuttle Columbia. As part of the project “America Votes 2004,” he moderated a discussion for Democratic presidential contenders that was co-hosted by the network Rock the Vote.

Anderson Cooper, who had previously worked as a war reporter for Channel One News, was sent to Afghanistan shortly after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, to report on the combat involving the United States military. He also traveled to Qatar to report on the testing of CENTCOM’s new mobile headquarters. More recently, Mr. Cooper interviewed the President of Haiti, Jean-Bertrand Aristide, just before a revolution in 2004.

Before joining CNN, Mr. Cooper worked as a journalist for ABC News and anchored the reality show The Mole on that network. In addition to producing stories for World News Tonight, 20/20, and 20/20 Downtown, Mr. Cooper led the live, interactive, overnight news and interview show World News Now on ABC. World News Now airs between midnight and 6 a.m. Anderson Cooper had previously worked for ABC News as a reporter in New York, covering stories for the World News Saturday and Sunday broadcasts.

Mr. Cooper came to ABC from Channel One News, where he worked as a reporter and producer before joining the ABC team. During that period, he was a lead foreign reporter, reporting and producing articles from Bosnia, Iran, Israel, Russia, Rwanda, Somalia, South Africa, and Vietnam. He also covered other international hot spots. Additionally, he covered national stories shown on the school television network Channel One News, which was seen in over 12,000 classrooms nationwide.

Anderson Cooper has been honored with several accolades for his work, including an Emmy Award for his contribution to ABC’s coverage of the funeral of Princess Diana, a Silver Plaque from the Chicago International Film Festival for his report from Sarajevo on the Bosnian civil war, a Bronze Telly for his coverage of the famine in Somalia, a Bronze Award from the National Educational Film and Video Festival for a report on political Islam, and a GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding TV Journalism for his reporting.

Anderson Cooper received his Bachelor of Arts in political science from Yale University in 1989. Additionally, he attended the University of Hanoi to study Vietnamese there. When compared to other television journalists, Cooper has an exceptionally distinguished background. His father, Wyatt Cooper, was a novelist from Mississippi.

In 1964, he married Gloria Vanderbilt, the heiress of one of the most significant fortunes in the history of the United States. Cornelius Vanderbilt was a shipping and railroad mogul who passed away in 1877 and left a wealth that is believed to be over $100 million. Anderson Cooper’s mother was the great-great-granddaughter of Cornelius Vanderbilt. As a young lady, Vanderbilt enjoyed a sparkling social life eagerly recorded in the day’s media. In her childhood, Vanderbilt had been the focus of a brutal custody fight that was well known.
