Christina Hendricks Bio

Christina Rene Hendricks was the second child to be born to American mother Jackie Sue Hendricks (née Raymond), a psychologist, and English father Robert Hendricks, a Forest Service employee who was originally from Birmingham. Christina Rene Hendricks was born on May 3, 1975, in Knoxville, Tennessee, the second child to be born to American mother Jackie Sue Hendricks (née Raymond). Because of her father, she is a citizen of both the United Kingdom and the United States. She has one brother who is older than her.

Because her father worked for the Forest Service, her family moved quite a bit throughout her childhood. They moved to Georgia when she was only two months old, and then they moved to Portland, Oregon, where she attended primary school. Hendricks and her family relocated from Portland to Twin Falls, Idaho, when she was nine years old. There, she attended elementary and middle school and received her education. She used the term “outdoorsy” to characterize her family, and she mentioned that they frequently went on camping excursions in the Pacific Northwest.

Grease was one of the shows that Hendricks participated in while she was a member of the local theatre club in Twin Falls, which her mother had suggested the two of them join so that they might meet new people. She was able to recall, “It was through the theatre company that I met all of these incredible pals. And it was a neighborhood that had a deep appreciation for the theatre. The children would put on a play, and the residents of the entire community would attend. And if you were an actress, people looked up to you.” After reading the book Anne of Green Gables when she was ten years old, Christina Hendricks decided to dye her naturally blonde hair red.

While Hendricks was a teenager, her family was relocated close to Washington, District of Columbia, because her father’s business demanded it. They decided to make their home in Fairfax, Virginia. She said that moving from Idaho to Virginia was “difficult” for her and that when she was attending Fairfax High School, she was regularly the target of bullying.  Hendricks referred to herself as an “outcast” and a “goth” and found a company in the school’s theatre department, where she performed in plays. She also defined herself as an “outcast.”

Throughout her teenage years, she was also active in the theatre and ballet communities. During her senior year at Fairfax High School, she decided to transfer to a nearby community college in order to finish her education.  Following her graduation from high school, Hendricks gained experience in the beauty industry by working at a salon as a shampoo girl and receptionist before entering a contest to be featured on the cover of Seventeen magazine. As a consequence of this, she was signed with IMG Models, and shortly thereafter, at the age of 18, she relocated to New York City, forgoing her pre-acceptance into the acting school at Virginia Commonwealth University.

She began her modeling career between the ages of 18 and 27 in New York, London, and Japan, before shifting into the commercial acting world. During this time, she spent around one year in London, where she was hosted by two friends who both held teaching positions. She came to Los Angeles, California, with her mother and brother when she was just starting out in her twenties.

Her friends discouraged her from pursuing a career in the administrative side of the music business, so she maintained working as a model before applying for acting jobs. Initially, she wanted to pursue a career in the administrative side of the music business. She starred in the music video for Everclear’s “One Hit Wonder” and appeared in advertisements for Carl’s Jr. and Dr. Pepper (1997). She modeled her hands for the American Beauty movie poster in the role of the hand model.

Her first appearance on television was in an episode of the anthology series Undressed on MTV. Beggars and Choosers was a Showtime comedy series about a group of young professionals that was filmed in Vancouver and aired from 1999 to 2001. Her first featured role was as an intern on the show, which ran from 1999 to 2001. In the year 2000, she also appeared as a guest in the television series Angel. After that, she made an appearance in the television film The Big Time (2002), and she went on to have recurrent guest parts on the television shows ER (2002), The Court (2003), and Firefly (2002–2003).

After making a cameo appearance on the television show Tru Calling, she was offered the role of Nicolette Ray in the courtroom drama Kevin Hill, which was produced by UPN and aired during the television season of 2004–2005. Hendricks played the office manager Joan Holloway in the AMC series Mad Men, which was set in a series of fictitious advertising companies in New York City in the 1960s. This part is considered to be Hendricks’ most well-known to date.

Her work was hailed by the media, and she was nominated for six Primetime Emmy Awards as Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series during the course of the show’s seven seasons. Likewise in 2007, Christina Hendricks made her debut in a starring role in the drama film La Cucina, which was broadcast for the first time on Showtime in December 2009 and featured Hendricks in the role of a writer. In the same year, she also acted in the suspense film South of Pico and made guest appearances in four episodes of the NBC series Life (2007–2008) as the recurring character Olivia. Olivia is the soon-to-be stepmother of Detective Charlie Crews and the love interest of Ted Earley.

In 2010, she had an appearance in the music video for “The Ghost Inside” by Broken Bells, which was released on their album. The Drive is an action-thriller film that was released in 2011 and was directed by Nicolas Winding Refn. She has a minor part in the film. The year after that, she was offered a supporting role in the drama film Ginger & Rosa, directed by Sally Potter, in which she would play the countercultural mother of a teenager who was growing up during the 1960s. In 2011, she made an appearance at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in a production of Stephen Sondheim’s Company.

In the racing video game Need for Speed: The Run, which was released in 2011, she provided both her voice and her likeness for the character of Sam Harper. She has garnered numerous awards over her extended career, including six nominations for the Primetime Emmy Award, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, and two Critics’ Choice Awards for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.

Her career has spanned both the stage and the screen. She is most recognized for her performance as Joan Harris in the award-winning drama series Mad Men, which airs on AMC. In 2010, she was voted “the sexiest woman in the world” by the female readers of Esquire magazine, who participated in a survey for the publication.  Also, she received the award for “Best Beautiful Woman in America.”

Hendricks was raised in Portland, Oregon, and Twin Falls, Idaho, where she became prominent in the local theatre scene. Although she was born in Knoxville, Tennessee to an American mother and an English father, she was raised in Portland and Twin Falls. Following the completion of her high school education in Virginia, she relocated to New York City and entered a modeling competition, which led to her pursuing a career in the fashion industry. She remained active in the modeling industry on a global scale for more than a decade before making the shift into acting.

After the cancellation of Mad Men, Christina Hendricks went on to feature in the television comedies Another Period and Hap and Leonard, both of which aired on SundanceTV, respectively, in 2015 and 2016. (2016). She then had roles in the comedy Fist Fight (2017), the horror film The Strangers: Prey at Night (2018), and the animation comedy Toy Story 4 (2018) after working with Refn again for a supporting role in his thriller film The Neon Demon (2016). (2019). She made her comeback to television with major roles on the NBC comedy-crime series Good Girls and the crime drama series Tin Star, both of which ran from 2017 to 2019. (2018–2021).
