Dustin Johnson Bio

American professional golfer Dustin Johnson has been a member of the PGA Tour since late 2007, when he joined the tour as a rookie. He was exposed to golf at a young age by his father, who was a professional golfer. He mostly learned the game through observing others, which led to his acquiring a strong interest in it. At the age of fourteen, he was the winner of the state junior championship. He enrolled at Coastal Carolina University with the goal of becoming a professional golfer on the PGA Tour. Playing at the collegiate level was a requirement for becoming a member of the Tour.

Dustin Johnson started his professional career as soon as he graduated from college, when he was just 23 years old. He qualified for the PGA Tour in 2008 after finishing in a tie for 14th position at the 2007 qualifying school in Las Vegas. Next that, he captured his first PGA Tour victory the following year. His winning streak has continued, with twenty-four wins on the PGA Tour and six triumphs at the World Golf Championships to his credit. He has the distinction of becoming the first golfer to win each of the four World Golf Championships.

Dustin Johnson was born on June 22, 1984, in Columbia, South Carolina, in the United States of America. Scott Johnson, his father, was the head professional golfer at the Mid Carolina Club, where he also maintained a pro shop with his wife, Kandee née Whisnant, until retiring. Dustin is the oldest of his parents’ three children, and he has two younger siblings, Austin and Laurie, who are his closest friends. Dustin Johnson began playing golf when he was six years old, thanks to the influence of his father. Soon after, he acquired a strong interest in the game and began competing as an amateur golfer. While still in seventh school, he was able to make it into the Irmo High School varsity soccer squad.

The youngster scored a pair of 64s on consecutive days at Coldstream Country Club in Irmo and Golden Hills Golf & Country Club in Lexington when he was fourteen years old, setting new course records at both location. Another achievement came in the same year, when he won the state junior champions. When he was a child, his parents separated somewhere in the late 1990s. While Dustin and Laurie remained with their father, Austin moved in with their mother, who was their grandmother. Despite the fact that they travelled between the two places, Dustin suffered greatly as a result of the interruption and was forced to transfer to Dutch Fork High School.

Dustin Johnson began skipping school during his sophomore year at Dutch Fork High School in order to focus on his studies. His involvement with an older adolescent gang led to his being persuaded into participating in a burglary attempt and assisting them in the pawning of the stolen items, which led to his arrest. He was eventually apprehended, but was released once the reparation was paid in full. Dustin knew during his senior year that if he wanted to achieve his dream of playing on the PGA Tour, he would have to put in the effort to study since tradition dictated that one had to play in college before being eligible to play on the PGA Tour. As a result, he determined to correct his trajectory and put in significant effort.

Following graduation from high school, he attended Coastal Carolina University, where he majored in Sports Management. Dustin was fortunate to have Allen Terrell as his coach, who ensured that he not only trained hard but but attended all of his courses as well. The development of Dustin Johnson started under Terrell’s watchful eye, and he went on to win All-Big South accolades at the Big South Conference Championship in his freshman year. Later on, he went on to win the Monroe Invitational as well as the Northeast Amateur Championship. In addition, he was a member of the Walker Cup and Palmer Cup winning teams in 2007. Dustin Johnson started his professional career in late 2007, making his first appearance on the PGA Tour, when he finished in a tie for 14th place in the 2007 qualifying school in December. On October 5, 2008, he won his first PGA Tour tournament, the Turning Stone Resort Championship, ten months after winning his first PGA Tour event.

With his victory at the Genesis Open on February 19, 2017, he surpassed Tiger Woods to become the world’s number one golfer in the Official World Golf Ranking. The WGC-Mexico Championship was his fifth victory, followed by the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play on March 26, and the Northern Trust on August 27.The Sentry Tournament of Champions, which he won on January 7 by eight strokes over Jon Rahm, served as his first victory of the year 2018. There were two additional victories after this one, including the FedEx St. Jude Classic on June 10 and the RBC Canadian Open on July 19. He also played for the United States squad in the Ryder Cup.

Dustin Johnson won the inaugural Saudi International on the European Tour on February 3, 2019, by two strokes over Li Haotong. The tournament was the first of its kind on the European Tour. He won the WGC-Mexico Championship on February 24 and represented the United States in the 2019 Presidents Cup, which was held at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Australia in December under the command of Tiger Woods. On June 28, he won the Travelers Championship, which marked the start of his 2020 season. As he continued to win, he captured three more championships in the same year: the Northern Trust on August 23, the Tour Championship on September 7, and the Masters Tournament on November 15 (all in the United States).

For the second time in three years, he was victorious in the Saudi International on February 7, 2021. It was a difficult battle, and the victory allowed him to maintain his position at the top of the global rankings. In addition, it was his 9th win on the European Tour this season. With model and singer Paulina Gretzky, with whom he has two boys, Tatum Gretzky Johnson (born in 2015) and River Jones Johnson (born in 2016), Dustin Johnson has been in a long-term relationship for a long period (born in 2017). The pair has been formally dating since the beginning of 2013 and were engaged in August of that year. On February 15, 2009, he won his second tournament, the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, in his home state of California. The 2009 Masters Tournament was his first professional tournament, when he finished as the second player in tournament history to eagle consecutive holes. He finished the season as the 15th highest earner on the PGA Tour’s money list.

A year later, on February 14, 2010, he successfully defended his AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am championship. In the following months, he endured a streak of defeats until finally winning the BMW Championship on September 12 and finished the season ranked fourth on the PGA Tour money list. In July 2011, he travelled to England to compete in the 2011 Open Championship in Kent, where he finished in a tie for second place with Phil Mickelson, three strokes behind the tournament’s champion, Darren Clarke. It was his best finish to that point, and he tied for second place with Phil Mickelson. Consequently, he moved up to the seventh position in the Official World Golf Ranking.

Dustin Johnson earned his fifth PGA Tour victory at The Barclays on August 27, 2011, propelling him to the second position in the world rankings for the first time in his career. However, as a result of his inability to win any more races that season, he finished fourth in the final standings. Johnson had a back issue at the beginning of 2012, which forced him to miss a number of events during the year. In May, he returned to competitive golf at the Memorial Tournament in Ohio, and on June 10, he captured his first season victory at the FedEx St. Jude Classic in Memphis, Tennessee, his first of the season. On January 8, he won the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, which was his first victory of the year.

On November 3, he won the WGC-HSBC Champions, which was contested at the Sheahan Golf Club in Shanghai, China, by three strokes over the reigning winner, Ian Poulter, who finished in second place. Dustin Johnson took a leave of absence from competition in 2014 due to “personal problems,” and he returned to professional golf in February of the following year. On March 8, he won the WGC-Cadillac Championship at Pebble Beach, Florida. In 2016, he won his first major championship, the 2016 United States Open Championship, on June 19, becoming the first African-American to do so. Later in the same year, he won the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational (on July 3) and the BMW Championship (on August 1). (September 11).
