Following that, he appeared in a number of noteworthy films, including ‘The Long Goodbye.’ With his role as Jack Geller in the hit television sitcom ‘Friends,’ Gould reclaimed some of his previously lost fame. In 1938, Elliott Goldstein was born to Jewish parents Bernard Goldstein and Lucille in the borough of Brooklyn in the city of New York, United States. His father worked as a textile buyer in the garment industry, while his mother was a sales representative for artificial flowers at beauty shops.

His mother put him in ‘Charlie Lowe’s show business school,’ where he learnt to sing, dance, and act in addition to other skills he acquired. He ultimately developed into a skilled dancer and began appearing in performances. He also became a kid model, appearing in a number of fashion shows across the city as a result. He began performing in variety shows for local television stations when he was 12 years old, however, as his modelling career began to wane. Around the same time, his mother and his teachers at ‘Charlie Lowe’ determined that he should alter his stage name from Elliott Goldstein to Elliott Gould to avoid confusion.

During his adolescent years, he worked as a dancer and comedian at hotels in the Catskill Mountains area. He graduated from the ‘Professional Children’s School’ in New York City, where he was a student. Additionally, he developed impersonation abilities about the same time. Despite his limited stage experience, he was so good at impersonating people that he landed his Broadway debut in the play “Rumple” in 1957 by impersonating an agent preaching the glories of Elliott Gould to a Broadway producer over the phone. Going forward, Gould will be seen in the Broadway production of “Say, Darling,” which will open on March 23rd (1958). Following that, he appeared in a supporting role in the critically acclaimed French musical ‘Irma La Douce’ (1960–61).

In the David Merrick-produced musical ‘I Can Get It for You Wholesale,’ he played Harry Bogen, who was a successful businessman. The musical made its Broadway debut on March 22, 1962, and ran for a total of 300 performances, all of which were sold out. After meeting Gould while performing in the musical, Barbra Streisand, who made her Broadway debut with the show, and the two were married the following year.  Years later, on February 9, 1971, he starred in the film adaptation of the novel ‘Little Murders,’ which was released in theatres.

When he made his cinematic debut in the 1964 American comedy “Quick, Let’s Get Married,” he received acclaim. In the 1968 musical comedy film ‘The Night They Raided Minsky’s,’ he had his first major on-screen appearance.

His big break came in the Paul Mazursky-directed American comic drama film ‘Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice,’ in which he played Ted Henderson. This was his first major role in the industry. The picture was released on September 17, 1969, and was an immediate success. He became well-known as a result of the film, and he was nominated for an Academy Award. As a result of his performance in the film, he was nominated for a “BAFTA Award,” “Laurel Award,” and “New York Film Critics Circle Award,” among other awards.

In March 1969, the American film studio ’20th Century Fox’ inked a non-exclusive four-picture deal with him, which was later extended. ‘MASH,’ directed by Robert Altman, was the first of the four films to be screened. The critically acclaimed black comic war picture was premiered on January 25, 1970, and went on to win numerous awards, including an Academy Award. Furthermore, it was awarded the prestigious ‘Palme d’Or’ at the 1970 ‘Cannes Film Festival,’ and the ‘Library of Congress’ designated it as ‘culturally significant.’ Because he received the ‘Laurel Award,’ Gould’s popularity soared as a result of the film. ‘Trapper John’ McIntyre, the character he played in the film, earned him a nomination for the ‘Golden Globe’ Award for best actor in a motion picture.

After starring as Harry Bailey in the 1970 American comedy-drama motion picture ‘Getting Straight,’ he rose to become one of the most well-known actors in the entertainment industry. In the same year, he was featured on the cover of ‘Time magazine,’ which described him as a’star for an uptight generation.’

He experienced a string of box-office disappointments in the early 1970s, including pictures such as ‘Move’ (1970), ‘I Love My Wife,’ (1970), and Ingmar Bergman’s debut English-language feature, ‘The Touch’) (1971). Gould relaunched his acting career by starring as detective Philip Marlowe in ‘The Long Goodbye,’ another film directed by Robert Altman, in which he also appeared (1973). Although the picture was just a moderate box-office success, it is considered to be one of Gould’s best works.

Altman also directed his next big film, ‘California Split,’ which was released in 1974. In the years that followed, Gould appeared in a number of films. Only a handful, such as ‘A Bridge Too Far’ (1977) and ‘Capricorn One’ (1978), were commercially successful at the box office, though. In the end, he only had a few cameo appearances in films, such as ‘Bugsy’ (1991).

He also featured in various television shows, series, and movies throughout his career. He was the presenter of ‘Saturday Night Live’ for eight episodes from 1975 to 1980, and he was also a writer for the show. He also appeared in the short-lived sitcom ‘E/R’ (1983–1985), which he wrote and directed. The role of Jack Geller, the father of Ross and Monica, in 20 episodes of the hugely popular American television sitcom ‘Friends’ brought his career back to life after it appeared to be on the verge of being over. After starring in hit television shows such as “Ray Donovan” (2013–16), “Mulaney” (2014), “Doubt” (2017), and “9JKL” (2018), he quickly established himself as a household figure in the United States. While on the set of ‘Friends,’ Gould featured in the critically acclaimed and controversial drama film ‘American History X,’ which was released at the same time (1998).

The Steven Soderbergh-directed heist picture ‘Ocean’s Eleven,’ in which he co-starred with George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and Julia Roberts was released in 2001. He played Reuben Tishkoff in the film. The critically praised film surpassed all expectations to become the fifth highest grossing film of the year. Going on to reprise his part in the sequels, namely, “Ocean’s Twelve,” “Ocean Thirteen,” “Ocean Eight,” and “Ocean Thirteen,” Gould established himself as a leading man in the industry (2018).

Elliott Gould is a member of the ‘Screen Actors Guild National Board of Directors,’ which oversees the organization’s national operations. His first marriage, to actress Barbra Streisand, lasted from March 21, 1963, to July 9, 1971, and was the longest of his life. Jason Gould, their son, went on to have a successful career as an actor, director, producer, singer, and writer.

Gould was married to Jennifer Bogart on two separate occasions. They were married from December 8, 1973, to 1975, and subsequently from June 9, 1978, to 1979. They had two children together. Gould and Jennifer had two children, Molly and Samuel, who were born to them. Gould is well-known for his involvement in a number of humanitarian endeavours, notably the ‘Save Ellis Island’ campaign.

He is perhaps best remembered for his appearances in MASH (1970), Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice (1969), and, more recently, his portrayal of old-time con artist Reuben Tishkoff in the films Ocean’s Eleven (2001), Ocean’s Twelve (2004), and Ocean’s Thirteen (2005–2008). (2007). Elliott Goldstein was born on August 29, 1938, in Brooklyn, New York, to Lucille (Raver), who worked in the artificial flower business, and Bernard Goldstein, who worked as a textile buyer in the garment industry. His ancestors were Jewish immigrants to the United States (from Romania, Belarus, and Russia).

Trapper John in Robert Altman’s MASH (1970) heralded the beginning of possibly the most productive phase of Gould’s career, which included such performances as Philip Marlowe in Altman’s The Long Goodbye (1973) and Robert Caulfield in the film Capricorn One (1976).

As a comedian, Gould has the distinction of hosting Saturday Night Live six times and directing E/R (1984), a situation comedy set in Chicago about a divorced physician working as a doctor in an emergency room that ran for one season. He also appeared as a co-star in the television series Nothing Is Easy (1986), which followed a couple who were raising an adopted Chinese son.

Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Gould made frequent appearances on television and in movies, including cameos in The Muppet Movie (1979) and The Muppets Take Manhattan (1990), among other films (1984). His most well-known recent television appearance was in a recurring role on the sitcom Friends (1994), in which he played Monica and Ross Geller’s father, Jack. Mr. Stoppable, a fictional character on the Disney Channel animated series Kim Possible, was voiced by him most recently (2002). For his performance as an older mobster in Warren Beatty’s Bugsy (1991), Gould gained critical acclaim. In addition, Gould appeared in the television series America’s History X. (1998). His next significant television role will be in the Showtime thriller Ray Donovan (2013), in which he will co-star with Liev Schreiber.

Going back to his childhood, Gould was married three times, twice to actress Jennifer Bogart and once to singer Barbra Streisand. He is the father of three children. He and Jennifer Bogart had been dating for three years and had two children together out of wedlock before they were married in 2007.

Jason Gould’s father, along with singer-actress Barbra Streisand, is an actor. In the same Manhattan high-rise luxury building where he and MASH (1970) co-star Donald Sutherland live, they have both purchased apartments. A total of six appearances as a host of Saturday Night Live (1975).

Was the first actor to portray the part of Trapper John in the film adaptation of the television series MASH (1970). M*A*S*H (1972) starred Wayne Rogers as the second actor, while Trapper John, M.D. starred Pernell Roberts as the third actor in the television series Trapper John (1979). Robert Altman, the director of MASH (1970), originally intended him to play Duke Forrest in the film. The role of Trapper John was given to him solely at his request.

Gould was a great box office draw in 1970 and 1971, but according to director Robert Altman, he had been out of work for six months when he was hired for The Long Goodbye (1973). According to critic Hollis Alpert, Gould’s anti-heroic figure was immensely popular among student radicals, and as radicalism began to wane around the time of Richard Nixon’s re-election in 1972, Gould’s appeal began to wane as well.

The director Ingmar Bergman referred to Gould as “difficult” after the two collaborated on The Touch (1971) (“The Touch”), which is considered to be one of the great master’s most forgettable pictures. He was originally attached to the film adaptation of Dr. David Reuben’s best-selling sex guide Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex * But Were Afraid to Ask (1972), but he later withdrew his participation. Woody Allen directed the picture, which was released in 1972.

Molly Gould (b. November 18, 1971) and Samuel Gould (b. November 18, 1971) are two of Jennifer Bogart’s children (b. January 9, 1973). Friends (1994) was a television show in which he and his Ocean’s Eleven (2001) and Ocean’s Twelve (2004) co-stars Julia Roberts, George Clooney, and Brad Pitt all appeared as guests, though not in the same episodes as each other. Formerly married to filmmaker Paul Bogart’s son-in-law.

A Glimpse of Tiger, a film version of Herman Raucher’s novel, in which he played the lead role, was cancelled after he walked off the shoot for reasons that were later revealed. He had been portraying a character who was wild, clownish, and unpredictable. After that, a new director, Peter Bogdanovich, became involved, and the project evolved into what we now know as the remake of Bringing Up Baby (1938)—What’s Up, Doc? (1972), in which the wild, clownish, unpredictable character changes genders and is played by Barbra Streisand, the director’s ex-wife. The Academy Awards are a kind of masturbatory fantasy, to put it mildly. People believe that winning an Academy Award means that they will no longer be required to pay a parking ticket. I’m not going to take the Award away from you. On the other hand, I’d rather play a decent three-man basketball game than sit here in my monkey suit if I’m being honest with myself.

He’s quite generous, a lot of fun, and extremely intelligent. And he was the one who established the tone. Brad Pitt was a wonderful person, and I became good friends with Matt Damon and… well, with everyone, to be honest. During the course of the film, however, I became increasingly aware of Casey Affleck. I addressed him as “Maestro.” He used to bite his nails much lower than I ever did… and I used to bite mine all the way to the quick! After Alan Arkin dropped out due to a medical issue, we were able to cast Carl Reiner in the role that he had originally been cast in by Alan Arkin. Bernie Mac was a wonderful person, and he will be missed. It was a pleasure to collaborate with Steven Soderbergh and Jeffrey Kurland, who was in charge of the outfit. Jeffrey Kurland was responsible for everything from the clothing to the spectacles.

In my previous post, I noted that I’m acquainted with Casey, but that I’d never actually interacted with Ben, so I decided to attend a gathering recently hosted by George Clooney, which was a celebration for the Argo cast. When I explained to Ben that I had come to say hello and express my admiration for his work, I believe he was happy; but, he then asked me a question that I felt was extremely interesting and insightful. “Have there been any things you’ve done in all of this that you’ve regretted?” he inquired. And I paused for a time before saying, “The answer is no, owing to the large number of people who are financially or otherwise dependent on our job. You accomplish something regardless of whether it is successful or unsuccessful. Once you’ve decided to do something and follow through with it, it becomes a part of your life. I wouldn’t be disappointed if it happened. I’d take something away from it.” As a result, I felt that I had been able to impart at least a small amount of wisdom to him.

In addition, all of my Friends were quite polite to me. Altman’s next picture, M*A*S*H (1970), was a resounding commercial and critical triumph. Although it took place during the Korean War, this superb black comedy was clearly a commentary on that country’s more recent battle when it was released at the height of the Vietnam War. Hawkeye and Trapper John, played by Elliott Gould and Donald Sutherland, respectively, struck a chord with the American counterculture with their reluctance to submit to authority, and Sally Kellerman and Robert Duvall offered outstanding supporting performances. Altman’s use of overlapping dialogue was a groundbreaking innovation at the time and has since become a trademark of the director’s work. His abrupt transition from bawdy slapstick to the shocking horrors of war jarred viewers out of their complacency in a way that few Hollywood films had previously done. For his work as a director, Altman received an Academy Award nomination, and the film received an Academy Award nomination for best picture. M*A*S*H put Altman in a position to make the kinds of films that he had wished to make for a long time before the series ended.
