Emilie de Ravin Bio

Born on December 27th, Emilie De Ravin grew up in the Australian town of Mount Eliza, in the state of Victoria. She auditioned for and was accepted to Melbourne’s elite Australian Ballet School when she was just 15 years old. The institution is situated in Down Under. But after barely a year, she dropped out to pursue an acting career. Her breakout part came in the sci-fi drama series BeastMaster (1999). The casting notice for a new character named Tess on the hit TV show Roswell (1999) prompted her to instantly travel to the United States. She was written out of the BeastMaster series after being offered the role and afterward went on to work as an alien under the name “Tess.” She packed up her belongings and headed west, where she landed a job in Roswell even before she found permanent housing.

After two years on the show, she went on to make notable guest appearances on CSI: Miami in 2002 and The Handler (2003). She went on to star as troubled teen Chris in the TV movie Carrie and continued working in the industry (2002). She also starred in films outside of her usual genre, such as the edgy comedy Santa’s Slay (2005). By branching out into movies, Emilie has proven her adaptability. Brick, an independent film she directed that premiered at Sundance in 2005, was her first feature (2005). The remake of “The Hills Have Eyes,” in which she starred, had a strong opening weekend in the UK in 2006.

In the Emmy-winning ABC series Lost, she played “Claire,” a young Australian lady who gave birth on a mysterious island and had a close relationship with “Charlie,” played by Dominic Monaghan (2004). She won an Emmy for her performance in this role. Once Upon a Time (2011), an updated take on classic fairy tales that was an ABC hit marked the conclusion of Emilie’s time as a series regular on the show. She was cast as the benevolent “Belle,” and Robert Carlyle as her evil “Mr. Gold/Rumpelstiltskin.” Emilie and her two cats, Louise and Stanley, love living in California. Together, Emilie and Eric Bilitch have raised two children, Vera and Theodore, and have been engaged since August 30, 2021.

De Ravin has had several prominent film roles, including in Santa’s Slay (2005), The Hills Have Eyes (2006), and Ball Don’t Lie (2008). Emily, Brendan Frye’s ex-lover, and a heroin addict was a character she played in the neo-noir film Brick (2005). She made a brief appearance in the 2009 film Public Enemies, and she had a larger role in the 2016 film Remember Me (2010). De Ravin has had three separate appearances on Maxim’s Hot 100 list, peaking at #47 in 2005, #65 in 2006, and #68 in 2008. Her great-grandfather on her father’s side was French. Two of her older half-siblings are her half-sisters. She started dancing when she was nine years old and by the time she was fifteen, she had been accepted into the famed Australian Ballet School.

While still in school, Emilie participated in several productions at both her school and the dancing studio Dance World 301. In 1999, Emilie decided to devote more of her time to the theatrical side of performance art, so she gave acting a go for two months. Because of this, she was cast as a villainous, scantily-clad character on an exaggerated Australian TV series called BeastMaster, which was her first professional acting role. With her parents and sisters in tow, she set out for Hollywood in December of that year to meet with agents. When she returned home after finishing the assignment, she was contacted by a casting director from the 20th century who had seen her on the show Beastmaster and wanted to schedule an audition with her.

Upon arriving in Los Angeles in February, Emilie began applying for jobs and enrolled in acting training at Prime Time Actors Studio. During the first week of auditions, she was chosen to play Tess Harding, a character on the Roswell science fiction television series. Emilie had a couple of guest-starring roles after the series ended before she landed the role of a pregnant, shipwrecked beauty on Lost. Even though it was tough for her to get screen time on the enormous ensemble show, she was always the main attraction. However, she did not waste her free time and appeared in other films, including the indie flick Brick, a remake of “The Hills Have Eyes,” and the romantic drama Remember Me.

Back in 2002, she was living in Los Angeles when she met American actor Josh Janowicz. On New Year’s Day in Melbourne, 2005, after dating for three years, he proposed to her. They wed in 2005 but filed for divorce two years later. The love of Emilie and Eric Bilitch resulted in the birth of their daughter, Vera Audrey de Ravin-Bilitch. They are the parents of a single child. She entered this world on March 12th, 2016. The news that Emilie would be departing the program after Season 7 was made public on May 12, 2017. The news of her return for at least one episode of the seventh season was announced in July 2017. She has previously played Tess Harding on Roswell and Claire Littleton on the ABC show Lost. After making a cameo appearance in an episode of the ABC drama Once Upon a Time in 2012, she was given a recurring role as Belle the following year.

De Ravin has had several prominent film roles, including in Santa’s Slay (2005), The Hills Have Eyes (2006), and Ball Don’t Lie (2008). She plays Emily, Brendan Frye’s ex-girlfriend, and heroin addict, in the neo-noir film Brick. She made a cameo appearance in Public Enemies in 2009, and she had a larger role in Remember Me in 2013. She had professional ballet training beginning at an early age due to the fact that this was the career path her family had always expected her to follow. Her introduction to ballet came at the young age of nine when she enrolled in classes at a nearby school. After that, she followed her mother to Los Angeles with the intention of launching an acting career. The episode of “Beastmaster” when she initially appeared in a key role made her television debut.

As a result, she is now a renowned actress who has starred in numerous films and TV shows. In addition, she has lent her voice to a number of video games. Starring as Tess Harding on CW’s Roswell (2000–2002), Claire Littleton on ABC’s Lost (2004–2008, 2010), and Belle on CW’s Once Upon a Time (2000–present), she has become a household name (2011–2018). De Ravin has had several prominent film roles, including in Santa’s Slay (2005), The Hills Have Eyes (2006), and Ball Don’t Lie (2008). She plays Emily, Brendan Frye’s ex-girlfriend, and heroin addict, in the neo-noir film Brick (2005). She had a small role in Public Enemies and went on to play Ally in Remember Me, both in 2009. As of this writing, De Ravin has made Maxim’s Hot 100 three times.

Three times De Ravin has made the Maxim Hot 100, the first time at number 47 in 2005, the second time at number 65 in 2006, and the third time at number 68 in 2008. The actress has been in The Hills, Have Eyes, and the Emmy-winning ABC series Lost, for which she received the most recognition. She will also play Anthony LaPaglia’s daughter in the upcoming ABC drama series Americana. She began dancing at the age of nine, and at the age of fifteen, she was accepted into the Australian Ballet School. After studying dance for a year in Melbourne, she decided to switch to acting. She was married to Josh Janowicz from 2003 to 2014.

She and her partner, Eric Bilitch, became first-time parents in March 2016 when Vera was born to them. That same year, later in the year, they decided to get engaged. The couple welcomed their son, Theodore, in December 2018. For multiple seasons, Ginnifer Goodwin appeared in the ABC series Once Upon a Time. Curupira, a recurring character on the TV show Beastmaster, was de Ravin’s first major role. She then portrayed the alien/human hybrid Tess Harding on the teen drama, Roswell. She was only 18 when she moved to Los Angeles and landed this position there.

Claire Littleton, played by De Ravin, was introduced to Lost viewers in 2004. The popularity of Lost was the subject of her comments “It’s tough to give an exact answer. If you’ve read a script and thought it sounded wonderful and flowed well, you might be surprised to learn how much of a role the actual filming, editing, music, and acting had in making the final cut. Everyone felt optimistic about it, but you can never tell.” For the first four seasons, as well as the final season, De Ravin had a consistent presence on the show. Season five saw her under a holding contract with ABC Network rather than as a regular cast member. Ravin said in an interview that she was drawn to the script because it was fresh and because the film’s teenagers are mature beyond their years.

A year later, De Ravin was given a starring part in the film adaptation of The Hills Have Eyes, playing Brenda Carter. The movie did really well at the box office. Ball Don’t Lie, in which Variety announced she would be starring in 2007, debuted at the 2008 Tribeca Film Festival, and opened in theatres in early 2009. De Ravin played a bank teller named Barbara Patzke in the 2009 film Public Enemies and also appeared in William Dear’s The Perfect Game. Because of his commitment to The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus and the untimely passing of star Heath Ledger, producer Samuel Hadida had to delay the release of Onimusha, the cinematic adaptation of the video game. De Ravin was cast in the role. Since it is now unknown whether or not De Ravin will continue development on Onimusha, the release date is indefinitely delayed.

Remember Me was filmed by de Ravin in the summer of 2009. On March 12, 2010, the movie opened to the public. She has a recurring role as Belle on the ABC fantasy drama Once Upon a Time in 2012  She had a few guest appearances in the first season before being upgraded to a permanent role in the second.  De Ravin, along with Ginnifer Goodwin, Josh Dallas, Jared S. Gilmore, and Rebecca Mader, announced their departure from the show in May 2017.  A cameo appearance by De Ravin in at least one episode of the seventh season was announced two months later. It turned out to be the fourth episode of the season, titled “Beauty.” For the series finale, “Leaving Storybrooke,” de Ravin made her return as Belle. In 2012, she was set to play the daughter of Anthony LaPaglia’s character on the new drama series Americana, however, the pilot was not picked up by ABC. The Submarine Kid, a 2015 independent film, featured her in a starring role.
