Frank Reich Bio

Frank Reich Jr. played for the Indianapolis Colts in the National Football League (NFL) and now coaches the franchise. He has previously played for many ‘NFL’ franchises, including the ‘Buffalo Bills,’ ‘Carolina Panthers,’ ‘New York Jets,’ and ‘Detroit Lions.’ Frank’s family moved from New York to Lebanon, Pennsylvania, when he was a baby. He was an avid athlete in high school, participating in various sports, including baseball, basketball, and football.

While attending college at “The University of Maryland,” he tried out for the school’s football team and was ultimately picked in the 1985 “NFL Draft” by the “Buffalo Bills.” Frank spent the following decade as a member of the ‘Bills’ and was instrumental in the team’s success. In 1995, Frank was signed by the ‘Carolina Panthers,’ after spending a single season with them, he was traded to the ‘New York Jets.’

After a year with the Jets, Frank signed with the Detroit Lions and played there until he retired from the NFL in 1998. In 2008, he signed on to begin his coaching career with the NFL’s ‘Indianapolis Colts.’ He is now the head coach of the ‘Indianapolis Colts,’ but has previously led teams in San Diego, Philadelphia, and Arizona.

Frank Michael Reich Jr. was born in Freeport, New York, on December 4, 1961. He and Joe, his younger sibling, grew up together. His dad was a high school coach, and he followed in his footsteps. Frank’s childhood was spent in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, as the family relocated there soon after his birth. Frank’s passion for athletics dates back to his early years. His dad was a big college football player, so he got his enthusiasm for sports from him.

Frank attended a Pennsylvania school called Cedar Crest High School and was quite active in sports there. Over time, he realized that football was his passion and began devoting himself to it. As a quarterback, he participated in the ‘Big 33 Football Classic Tournament’ in 1980.
When he graduated from high school, he was offered a full sports scholarship to play for the ‘Maryland University team, often called the ‘Terrapins.’ He spent three years with the team because of the scholarship.

Frank Reich is a very spiritual guy who follows Christ wholeheartedly. He also talks about achievement and drive and often talks about how God plays a part in it. He received his Master of Divinity from the Charlotte Campus of Reformed Theological Seminary in North Carolina. Before relocating to Indianapolis, he served as pastor at the “Ballantyne Presbyterian” church. Frank tied the knot with his high school sweetheart, Linda Reich. Frank was a football player, and Linda was a cheerleader, so naturally, they crossed paths in high school. It’s been three girls for the happy couple.

His 1984 matchup with the ‘Miami Hurricanes’ was one of the highlights of his collegiate career. At the break, ‘Miami’ had a 31-0 lead. However, with Frank’s stellar performance of abilities, “Miami” won the game 42-40, which was considered the most remarkable comeback in college football history.

After showings like these, it seemed a foregone conclusion that top clubs in the 1985 ‘NFL Draft’ would give Frank serious consideration. The ‘Buffalo Bills’ were wise to pick him that year. Frank was the 57th overall choice in the third round of the NFL draft, made by the Buffalo Bills. Frank was relegated to the role of backup quarterback behind Jim Kelly and saw little playing time throughout the following several seasons.

The club shot Frank when Jim Kelly had a shoulder injury in 1989. Frank quickly found his footing and steered the squad to two consecutive wins. He was also instrumental in his team’s victory against the previously undefeated Los Angeles Rams. Jim’s ‘NFL’ career would be off to a tremendous start with a few more displays like this.

By the start of the next season, Jim had fully healed, and Frank was eager to go back on the field. When Jim went down with an injury for the third time in the season, he finally got his opportunity to play. Frank made the most of his chance and helped lead his side to the ‘AFC East championship.

Despite his obvious talent, Jim Kelly kept him on as a regular backup, and he was only given opportunities to play while Jim was out. In a game against the ‘Houston Oilers’ during the 1992 season, Frank brought his team back from a 32-point deficit to a victory. The game ended with a final score of 41–38, but despite the loss, it was widely considered one of the greatest comebacks in NFL history.

Frank was given another opportunity to play for his squad at ‘Super Bowl XXVIII’ versus ‘Dallas Cowboys.’ Before Frank took over, the ‘Cowboys’ were up 31-7, but he quickly turned the tide by scoring ten straight points. Unfortunately, the ‘Buffalo Bills’ were defeated.
As of March 1995, Frank was a member of the ‘Carolina Panthers.’ But he was again maintained as a backup to Kerry Collins, the starting quarterback. Collins and Frank were fierce competitors on the basketball court since they attended rival schools throughout their formative years.

Frank was drafted by the ‘New York Jets’ in 1996 and started seven games for the team. The following year, he signed up with the “Detroit Lions.” He had tremendous potential as a football player but was given little playing time. His retirement year was 1998. In 2006, he started coaching when the “Indianapolis Colts” hired him as a coaching intern. He took over as the team’s quarterback coach in 2008 when he joined the staff. Frank was hired as the wide receivers coach in 2011; however, after a disastrous ‘NFL’ season, he and the rest of the coaching staff were fired.

The ‘Arizona Cardinals’ hired him as their wide receivers coach in 2012. However, he was let go a short time after.
Frank returned to the ‘Indianapolis Colts’ in 2018 as the team’s head coach after stints with the ‘San Diego Chargers’ and ‘Philadelphia Eagles. They opened the ‘Colts’ season with a disappointing 1-5 record. However, things took a surprising turn for the better, with the club winning 9 of their last ten games to finish with a remarkable 10-6 record.
