Glenn Gordon Caron Bio

Often referred to as Glenn Caron, Glenn Gordon Caron was born on April 3, 1954. He is an American writer, director, and producer who is most well-known for his work on the television programs Moonlighting in the 1980s and Medium in the 2000s. It is in Los Angeles, California, where he resides. While he was working at the advertising firm, NBC solicited his services to compose a pilot for the network.

Caron’s work attracted writer-producer James L. Brooks, who encouraged him to join the writing crew of Taxi, even though he only worked on one episode of the show. The pilot did not earn a commission for a series order. After that, Caron went on to co-produce the first twelve episodes of Remington Steele, which aired on NBC from 1982 until 1987. After that, he left to establish his own production business, Picturemaker Productions.

Caron was the creator of the famous television show Moonlighting, which aired on ABC from 1985 to 1989 and was a global phenomenon. It was responsible for reviving the career of Cybill Shepherd and launching the career of Bruce Willis. Michael Keaton starred in Caron’s debut feature picture, Clean and Sober (1988), which he directed between the third and fourth seasons of the Netflix series. Allegedly, Shepherd was the reason for his dismissal from Moonlighting by ABC before to the beginning of the fifth and final season of the show.

Caron then directed three more feature films — Wilder Napalm (1993), starring Dennis Quaid and Debra Winger, and written by Vince Gilligan, who later created the AMC series Breaking Bad; the Warren Beatty-Annette Bening vehicle Love Affair (1994), a remake of the 1939 film of the same name; and Picture Perfect (1997), starring Jennifer Aniston — before returning to television in 1999 as the creator of the short-lived series Now and Again (CBS, 1999-2000).

In 2001, Fox placed an order for thirteen episodes of the romantic comedy Fling, which was produced by Caron. Seven episodes were filmed, but the network decided to terminate the series before any of those episodes could be shown because they were dissatisfied with the direction that the series was taking during production. In the following four years, Caron developed Medium for NBC.

Not only did he write multiple episodes of the program, but he also directed the premiere episode of the series. He also acted as the show’s executive producer. The show aired on CBS for the last two seasons of its seven-season run. In 2008, Caron penned a pilot for CBS titled “The Meant to Be’s,” which told the story of a lady who passes away but finds herself transported back to Earth to assist other people in getting their lives back on track. Despite this, it was not considered for a series order.

The Middle Man was the title of the pilot that Caron wrote in 2013 for a potential series that would air on Fox. A Boston FBI agent and his Irish-American informant take on the Italian-American mafia in this historical drama that takes place in the 1960s. It was originally planned for Ben Affleck to direct the pilot episode, however the episode was never actually shot.

The next year, Fox commissioned a pilot for The Cure, a medical drama that was to be cowritten and coproduced by Caron and Malcolm Gladwell, a writer for The New Yorker; however, the pilot was never shot. Caron was also considered for the role of writing a pilot for ITV Studios in 2016, which would be based on Alan Glynn’s book Paradime.

Caron was responsible for writing and producing episodes of the first and second seasons of the FX series Tyrant. In the spring of 2017, he joined CBS’s Bull as a consulting producer, and he eventually became the showrunner of the series at the beginning of the second season. With the announcement that Caron would be leaving Bull in May of 2021, it was also stated that he would be terminating his contract with CBS Studios.

The Austin Film Festival presented Caron with the Outstanding Television Writer Award in the year 2007. In addition, he was nominated for four Primetime Emmy Awards for Moonlighting between the years 1986 and 1987, and he was awarded a Writers Guild of America award for his pilot screenplay for Moonlighting, which they received in 1985.

She claimed that she was fired by Caron from the CBS series Bull in 2017 after she confronted its star, Michael Weatherly, about sexually charged remarks he had made to her while filming the final three episodes of the show’s first season. The Boston Globe published an opinion piece written by Eliza Dushku on December 19, 2018, in which she made her claim.

Earlier, before Caron became Bull’s showrunner and an executive producer for the second season, she had been recruited as a consulting producer for those three episodes. There was an expectation that Dushku would become a full-time cast member in the second season of the series. As part of the settlement agreement, CBS paid her $9.5 million to resolve her allegations of sexual harassment and wrongful termination.

Dushku signed a nondisclosure agreement as part of her payment; however, once the news of the settlement became public, Weatherly and Caron provided remarks to The New York Times, in which they said, “The idea that our not exercising her option to join the series was in any way punitive just couldn’t be further from the truth.”

She felt obligated to answer, and she wrote, “The narrative that was spread by CBS.”Before Caron resigned from Bull in 2021, CBS initiated an inquiry into the exits of numerous writers from the program. The goal of the study was to determine whether or not Caron “fostered a disrespectful work environment during his four-year tenure.”
