Iwan Rheon is a musician and actor who hails from Wales. Iwan Rheon, an accomplished actor who has won an Olivier Award, was born in Carmarthen in 1985. When Rheon was in school, he was interested in the theater and participated in many play performances. After being discovered at a National Eisteddfod of Wales, he was given a part in the Welsh soap opera Pobol y Cym 17 when he was just 17. After that, he moved away from Wales and started his professional training at LAMDA.
Rheon earned his first professional theater credit in 2008 for his performance as Al in Jim Cartwright’s Eight Miles High at Liverpool’s Royal Court Theatre. Cartwright wrote the production. In the latter part of that year, he was given the role of Moritz Stiefel in the premiere of Spring Awakening on the West End. In 2009, the performance had its debut at the Lyric Hammersmith, where it was performed for a total of four months. At the Olivier Awards 2010, Rheon was recognized for portraying Moritz Stiefel and was awarded Best Supporting Actor in a Musical.
Rheon’s subsequent performance brought him back to Wales, where he was greeted with acclaim for his work in The Devil Inside Him at the National Theatre Wales in 2010. After that, in 2011, he was a member of the cast of Remembrance Day by Aleksey Scherbak at the Royal Court Theatre, which was performed as part of the international playwright season.
Considering the politically heated tensions in modern-day Latvia, workshops held by the Royal Court in Moscow in 2008 and 2009 led to the development of Remembrance Day. After taking some time off from performing, Rheon returned to the West End stage in 2018 with the production of Foxfinder at the Ambassador Theatre.
In the movie “Misfits,” Rheon played the main character. Both the forthcoming films Wasteland and Libertador include him in some capacity. Additionally, he played Ben, Simon Amstell’s self-absorbed lover, in reoccurring episodes of the first and second seasons of the comedy Grandma’s House, created and written by Simon Amstell.
The part of Ramsay Snow, which he will play in the third season of Game of Thrones, was given to him. On July 20, 2012, it was revealed that he would be playing the part, even though the character had initially been referred to as “Boy” to protect his privacy. His name was added to the opening credits beginning with the episode “The Lion and the Rose,” which indicated that he had been elevated to the role of a leading cast member for the fourth season.
In the DVD commentary for the third episode of season three, titled “Walk of Punishment,” executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss stated that Iwan was their runner-up second choice to portray Jon Snow, one of the primary heroes of the saga, but that Kit Harington was ultimately cast in the role instead. Ramsay Snow is a contrast to Jon Snow in many respects. Just as the Boltons are the “bad” counterpart to the “good” Starks in the North, both are the bastard sons of the heads of their respective Houses. After some time, Bryan Cogman said that when David Benioff and D. B. Weiss conceived of the show’s version of Ramsay, Rheon was their first and only option for the character of Ramsay.
Even though Rheon and Harington are good friends in real life, they do not appear together on screen until the episode “Battle of the Bastards” from the sixth season. During the shooting of the battle sequence between Jon and Ramsay, Rheon is accidentally hit twice by Harington. First, Harington clipped Rheon’s chin with a shield and punched him across the face. Both blows were accidental. Even though Rheon did not sustain any injuries that required medical attention, Harington is said to have purchased him a pint of beer as a gesture of repentance.
Alongside Harington, Lena Headey, Peter Dinklage, Emilia Clarke, and Natalie Dormer, Rheon reprised his role as Ramsay in Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series. Telltale Games developed the series. In the television series Residue, which aired in 2015, he had a recurring role opposite Natalia Tena, who had previously portrayed Osha in Game of Thrones.
Simon Bellamy in Misfits and Dylan Smith in Our Girl are two notable roles he has played on television. Rheon gained widespread recognition for his role as Ramsay Bolton in the blockbuster HBO series Game of Thrones, where he appeared from 2013 to 2016. Former Game of Thrones actor Iwan Rheon will play the ruthless underworld leader Tenax in Roland Emmerich’s forthcoming gladiator drama Peacock. After being cast as Rheon in Marco Polo, Lorenzo Richelmy dropped out due to schedule issues.
Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins had signed on to play Roman Emperor Vespasian, and several other actors, including Rheon, Johannes Haukur Johannesson, Rupert Penry-Jones, Eneko Sagardoy, Pepe Barroso, Gonçalo Almeida, Kyshan Wilson, and Alicia Edogamhe, have been cast to star opposite him. In Rome, they are now in the production phase.
Under his Centropolis Entertainment business, Emmerich is producing and directing Those About to Die, while Saving Private Ryan screenwriter Robert Rodat is penning the script, both of which are based on Daniel Mannix’s nonfiction book. Tom Hughes as Titus Flavianus, Sara Martins as Cala, Jojo Macari as Domitian, Gabriella Pession as Antonia, Dimitri Leonidas as Scorpus, and Moe Hashim as Kwame will all be featured in the series with Hopkins.
The plot summary states, “It is an epic drama set in the complex and corrupt world of spectacle-driven gladiatorial competition.” As the series’ synopsis puts it, “The series introduces an ensemble of diverse characters from all parts of Roman society who collide at the intersection of sports, politics, and dynasties of the ancient world.”
