James Donaldson Bio

James Lee Donaldson III is an English-American former professional basketball player. He was born on August 16, 1957, in California, and he played 14 seasons in the National Basketball Association and numerous leagues around Europe. Donaldson is a dual citizen of the United States and England.

Donaldson was born in Heacham, England, but he attended Luther Burbank High School in California for his basketball career. After graduating high school, he enrolled at Washington State University to play college basketball for the Cougars. In the late 1970s, Donaldson, a 7-foot-2 center, was a standout player for both Luther Burbank High School and the state of Washington.

During his four years at WSU, he played 84 games and averaged 8.5 points and 8.1 rebounds per contest. As of April 2015, he was the all-time leader in career blocked shots (176), blocks average (2.1), single-season blocks (82 in 1977–78), single-season blocks intermediate (3.0 in 1977–78), and single-game blocked shots (eight against Stanford on January 25, 1978). He was also the all-time leader in single-game blocked shots (eight against Stanford).

In 2006, he was given honorary status in both the Pac-12 Hall of Honor and the Washington State University Athletic Hall of Fame. Following the 1979 NBA draft, in which the Seattle SuperSonics selected him, he accepted a contract to play with 3A Antonini Siena, who competed in the Italian Serie A.Donaldson spent his first three NBA seasons with the Seattle SuperSonics before going on to play for the San Diego Clippers, who would eventually become the Los Angeles Clippers.

His field goal percentage of 0.637 in the 1984–1985 NBA season put him at the top of the league, and it is still one of the ten most excellent field goal percentages in NBA history. Donaldson named Artis Gilmore, Darryl Dawkins, Moses Malone, Truck Robinson, and Maurice Lucas, some of the most formidable opponents he faced in the early stages of his career. He also mentioned Truck Robinson.

In 1985, Donaldson became a member of the Dallas Mavericks. When he left the miserable and dysfunctional Clippers for the Mavericks, he joked with his new colleagues that it was like dying and going to Heaven. He enjoyed his best years playing with the Mavericks, contributing to Dallas’ star-studded line-up by providing rebounding and shot-blocking to compliment Mark Aguirre, Rolando Blackman, Roy Tarpley, Derek Harper, Sam Perkins, and Brad Davis. During his time with Dallas, he had his best years as a player.

During the 1988 season, the Mavericks had a run that took them to the Western Conference Finals, where the Los Angeles Lakers ultimately defeated them. Donaldson was a member of the 1988 All-Star Team. Following a vote by the public, the New York Daily News dubbed him the worst All-Star player in the game’s history.

Donaldson became the target of many fans and even his teammates for the franchise’s woes, making the end of his otherwise hugely successful tenure in Dallas inevitable. Unfortunately, things generally fell apart for the Mavericks in the late 1980s and early 1990s as their core group was traded away (like Aguirre) or squandered vast potential via personal problems (like Tarpley).

In the year 1990, he established the dating magazine known as Eligibles and served as its CEO. It was only published in Dallas-Fort Worth for a limited period before the publication company went out of business. After playing for the New York Knicks (for whom he was transferred in the middle of the 1991–92 season in exchange for Brian Quinnett) and the Utah Jazz (for whom he appeared in a total of 49 games throughout two seasons), Donaldson was forced to retire from the NBA due to injuries.

After retiring from the league in 1995, he finished his career with 8,203 points, 7,492 rebounds, and 1,267 blocks. He participated in 957 games in the National Basketball Association without ever attempting a three-point shot, setting a record for players active throughout the 3-point era. On August 1, 1993, he signed a contract to play for the Iraklis team of the Greek Basket League. He started all 30 games for Iraklis and finished with an average of 12.1 points, 12.2 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per game.

During the 1996–1997 season, he played for Caja San Fernando and scored 3.5 points and a rebounding average of 3.6 per game. In addition, he played for Snai Montecatini (Italy, 1997–98, for a total of just six games), Breogán Lugo (Spain, for two separate stints, in 1998 and 1999), and Gymnastikos S. Larissas (Greek Second Division, 1998–1999) before finally retiring at the age of 41.

Following his retirement, Donaldson relocated to the Seattle region, where he established his home and maintained the Donaldson Clinic, a physical therapy practice located in Mill Creek, Washington, until February 2018. In addition to that, he is a motivational speaker.
In 2009, Donaldson bid for the post of mayor of Seattle, which is a non-partisan position, and finished in fourth place among the contenders.

In 2010, Donaldson became the Director of the Tacoma College Success Foundation after joining the College Success Foundation as a member of its staff. Donaldson’s Beast Investments LLC filed a lawsuit for breach of contract and asked a federal court in Manhattan for permission to end his business partnership with Virtual Dining Concepts. Virtual Dining Concepts is a firm based in Florida that was co-founded by Robert Earl, who had previously worked as an executive at Planet Hollywood.

A famous user on YouTube, Mr. Beast, has filed a lawsuit against the firm exclusively responsible for the Mr.Beast burger, which is part of his branded fast food line in Kudong. The rationale for taking such drastic measures is that some clients were given inedible food. In 2020, Virtual Dining Concepts, a firm that partners with James Donaldson, also known as Mr.Beast, will debut the food menu from ‘ghost kitchens.’
