John Arthur Lithgow was born on October 19, 1945, in Rochester, New York. His mother, Sarah Jane, was an actress, and his father, Arthur Washington Lithgow III, was a former producer and director who owned the McCarter Theatre in Princeton, New Jersey. Arthur Washington Lithgow III was John Arthur Lithgow’s grandfather. He has ancestors from a variety of places. In 1967, Lithgow graduated from Harvard College with a bachelor’s degree in history and literature. He attended that institution. In later years, he was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship and attended the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art for his academic pursuits.

John Lithgow is a veteran American actor, comedian, poet, and singer who has appeared in over one hundred film and television projects in the previous five decades.
