Jon Hamm Bio

American actor Jon Hamm is most recognized for his role as Don Draper, a fictitious ad executive in the 1970s-set series Mad Men. Hamm had a tough time getting started in the acting business because people assumed he was much older than he was. He served tables and designed the set of an R-rated film to make ends meet. Frustrated by his inability to get decent employment, he resolved to break in by age 30. Jon has the expertise and talent as an actor to make even the most evil character likable and funny.

Throughout his career, he has been in several film and TV roles. In 2008 and 2016, he won the Golden Globe for “Best Actor” for his performance as Don Draper. Because of his exceptional performance, he was nominated for eight Emmys. ’30 Rock,’ ‘Parks and Recreation,’ and ‘Children’s Hospital’ are just a few of the shows he’s guest starred on television. His filmography included roles opposite Ben Affleck in films including “Million Dollar Arm” (2014), “Friends with Kids,” and “The Town” (2010).

On March 10, 1971, Jonathan Daniel Hamm was born in St. Louis, Missouri. His dad, Daniel, had a trucking business, and his mom, Deborah, worked as an administrative assistant. Hamm is the middle sibling of the two. Jennifer Hinze is the elder sister, while Julie Schulte is the younger. When Hamm was just two years old, his parents split up. In Creve Coeur, Missouri, in St. Louis County, Hamm spent his childhood until his mother died of colon cancer when he was ten. Hamm eventually relocated to Clayton, Missouri, to be with his dad.

When Hamm was in the first grade, he played Winnie the Pooh in a play. Later, at 16, he was cast as Judas in the Broadway production of “Godspell.” John Burroughs School was Hamm’s alma mater. He participated in three different sports as a student: football, swimming, and baseball. In 1989, he enrolled at The University of Texas. He joined Sigma Nu at the collegiate level, namely the Upsilon Chapter. In response to an advertisement, he attended an audition for a performance of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” when he was a student at the University of Missouri and was cast in the role.

After earning his BA in English in 1993, Hamm taught eighth-grade drama at his alma mater. In 1995, he packed his vehicle and $150 and headed to Los Angeles to avoid a traditional job. Since Hamm had been unemployed from the acting industry for three years and seemed much older than he was, his agents and reps at the William Morris Agency decided to drop him as a client.

During this time, he worked as a waiter and a set designer for an adult film to make ends meet. After feeling more hopeless about his employment prospects, he resolved to make something of his life by the time he was 30. From 1997 to 2015, Jon Hamm dated Jennifer Westfeldt. Jennifer has worked in both film and television. He is a sports fanatic. He’s an avid golfer and tennis player who supports the St. Louis Cardinals and Blues of the National Hockey League (NHL) by appearing in commercials for both teams.

In 2000, NBC cast Jon Hamm as romantic fireman Burt Ridley in the drama series Providence. His original contract for one season was extended to include 19. He was able to stop working as a waiter because of this. His first cinematic role was in Clint Eastwood’s 2000 space western Space Cowboys. Hamm’s character says one sentence throughout the whole film.

After that, he was cast in films like “Kissing Jessica Stein” (2001) and “We Were Soldiers” (2002, a military drama). ‘The Division,’ a criminal thriller on the Lifetime network, featured him as a recurrent character from 2002–2004. After that, he had little parts in a few other TV shows. The 2008 science fiction picture The Day the Earth Stood Still featured him in his second cinematic appearance. The movie was a reimagining of one from the ’50s.

Episode 6 of season 34 of “Saturday Night Live” aired on October 25, 2008, with him as host. On January 30 and October 30, 2010, he hosted Saturday Night Live again. In the independent thriller ‘Stolen’ (2009), Hamm played the leading role for the first time. In the film, he portrayed a police officer whose kid goes missing. In “Shrek Forever After,” he provided the voice of the ogre leader Brogan. The movie came out in theaters in May of 2010. In the same year, Hamm co-starred with Ben Affleck as an FBI agent in The Town.

The indie film ‘Howl,’ based on Allen Ginsberg’s 1956 poem of the same name, featured him as Allen Ginsberg’s defense attorney, Jake Ehrlich. In 2011, he was a part of Zach Snyder’s action fantasy film Sucker Punch. He has the role of ‘High Roller’ in the movie. In 2011, Hamm appeared in another indie film titled “Friends with Kites.” Together with his then-girlfriend Jennifer Westfeldt, Hamm served as the film’s producer.

In the 2012 comedy series “The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret,” he portrayed Blake Harrison, a loyal employee of the psychopathic millionaire Dave Mountford. Jon Hamm presented the 21st annual ESPY Awards on July 17, 2013. From December 2012 to December 2013, he also appeared in ‘A Young Doctor’s Notebook’ as an older version of Daniel Radcliffe’s character. In the 2015 spring, he appeared in the comedy film ‘Keeping Up with the Joneses’ starring Zach Galifianakis, Gal Gadot, and Isla Fischer. After being delayed for seven months, the movie came out in October 2016.

Hamm has since made an appearance in the science fiction film Marjorie Prime. Sundance was where the world first saw the movie. He also appeared in Baby Driver, a criminal comedy that had its world debut at the 2017 South by Southwest Film Festival. The American drama film ‘Aardvark’ starred him as Craig Norman, the brother of Zachary Quinto’s character. Tribeca Film Festival 2017 was the premiere venue for the film.

He was chosen to appear in the adaptation of Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman’s “Good Omens” for the small screen. The BBC and Amazon are collaborating on this project. Hamm’s breakout role as Don Draper, the smooth advertising executive, in the AMC drama series ‘Mad Men’ came to him in 2007. Out of over 80 applicants, he got chosen. Nearly 1.4 million people watched the premiere on July 19, 2007. Hamm and the program gained a devoted fan base in a short amount of time.

Hamm’s character, Drew Baird, appeared on many episodes of the NBC comedy ’30 Rock’ as a guest star. His Liz Lemon-loving persona is a doctor and next-door neighbor of Tina Feys. Hamm was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for “Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series” three times for his appearances. In the animated comedy film “Minions,” released in 2015, Hamm provided the voice for the character of Herb Overkill. Over one billion dollars was made from ticket sales throughout the globe.
