Joy Reid Bio

American media personality Joy-Ann M. Lomena-Reid now serves as a national correspondent for the cable news network MSNBC. Lomena-Reid is of African-American descent. She co-hosts the podcast “Reid This-Reid That” with veteran journalist Jacque Reid, and she broadcasts the book podcast “What to Reid” with her husband, who is also a senior journalist. Both of these podcasts are named after the Reid family. In a previous life, Joy worked as a talk radio host in the broadcasting industry.

While Joy was born in New York, she spent most of her life in Denver, Colorado, where she resided until she was 17. Joy did not leave Denver until she was 17 years old. Her father is a well-respected engineer who is originally from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Her mother came from Guyana, worked as a dietitian, and taught at a college. After a brief courtship while both were students at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, the couple eventually divorced, and her father relocated to the Democratic Republic of the Congo. As her mother lost her battle with breast cancer, Joy moved to Brooklyn to be with an aunt. She has been there since her mother’s passing.

Reid, her sister June Carryl, and her brother Oren Lomena grew up at the same home throughout their childhood. Carryl is an actress and writer with a Bachelor of Science in political science. Initially, she planned on pursuing a career as a lawyer after obtaining this degree; however, she ultimately decided to pursue a Master of Arts degree in English Literature instead. She has had starring roles in various movies and television programs, including What Dreams May Come, Sweet November, Back Roads, and Parenthood.

In addition to that, she has appeared on television programs, including Law & Order: Los Angeles, Criminal Minds, The Bold and the Beautiful, and Without a Trace. She has been in the Netflix series Mindhunter and just joined the cast of Helstrom, which is a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise and stars Louise Hastings. Both of these projects are pretty popular.

Joy Reid is one of Carryl’s most ardent fans, and she often shares positive messages of support and encouragement on her sister’s social media platforms in response to Carryl’s achievements. In 2019, shortly after the premiere of the second season of Mindhunter, she posted her ideas on Facebook to share with others. “The other day, while conversing with some friends, we were talking about how horrified we were as youngsters when we heard about the murders of children in Atlanta, even though we lived hundreds of miles away in Colorado.

June does a fantastic job of expressing the broader scope of the suffering and loss that these families are going through. “I’m delighted!!! ” Now, only a few days after Helstrom was made available on Hulu, Reid hurried to Twitter to show her admiration for her sister’s job. As I said before, my husband and I have just finished watching the whole first season of the show “Helstrom” on Hulu, and it is FANTASTIC!!! A tweet was just put out by Reid. “And it’s not just because my incredible older sister, @junecarryl, is a frickin’ MAJOR CHARACTER IN A @MARVEL SHOW!!! ” “All right, that’s one of the reasons,” she said to him.

Jason Reid is a writer and editor who works as a partner and senior editor at Image Lab Films in Los Angeles. Joy is married to Jason Reid, who shares the same profession. When he started working for NBC News, he was a senior editor at the Discovery Channel, where he primarily oversaw the channel’s documentary programming. In addition to that, he worked as a freelance editor for the NBC Universal subsidiary Peacock Productions. This company produces reality television shows, documentaries, and news specials.

The wedding took place on February 27, 1997, and the pair exchanged their vows during the ceremony. In addition to serving as a political pundit for MSNBC and anchoring “The ReidOut,” which will make its debut on July 20, 2020, and air weeknights at 7 p.m. ET’s Joy-Ann Reid also co-hosts the podcast “Reid This-Reid That” with her sister, veteran journalist Jacque Reid. She hosts the podcast “What to Reid About,” centered on books.

From February 2014 to February 2015, Reid hosted The Reid Report, an afternoon cable news show aired on MSNBC. The program ran for a total of two years. On February 19, 2015, the show was canceled, and the very next day, she was promoted to a new job as a national correspondent for MSNBC.

AM Joy is a political weekend-morning discussion show on MSNBC that Reid has hosted since May 2016, and he is the show’s host and executive producer. Also, when other MSNBC presenters like Chris Hayes and Rachel Maddow cannot work, he will host their performances in their stead. According to Nielsen Media Research, Reid’s Saturday morning show attracted an average of around one million viewers per week as of 2018.

She has previously had positions as a press secretary for two presidential campaigns, one of which was Barack Obama’s campaign for president of the United States in Florida in 2008. She has also worked in television news, both locally and nationally, as well as in talk radio. Her essays have been published in magazines and newspapers, such as The New York Times, The Guardian, The Miami Herald, New York Magazine, and The Daily Beast.

In addition to that, she is a professor at the School of Communications at Syracuse University, where she teaches a college course. Joy is the author of “The Man Who Sold America: Trump and the Unraveling of the American Story,” which will be published by Harper Collins in 2019. This book was a New York Times bestseller. In addition, she is the author of “Fracture: Barack Obama, the Clintons, and the Racial Divide,” which was released by William Morrow/Harper Collins in 2015, and “We Are the Change We Seek: The Speeches of Barack Obama,” which was released by Bloomsbury in 2016 and co-edited with the Washington Post. Both of these books were written by her.

In 2018, she was considered for three Salute to Excellence Awards by the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ). Reid was nominated for three Emmys, one of which was for the program she worked on in which a pastor was saved from a white supremacist protest in Charlottesville.

One for her reporting on hurricane damage in the US Virgin Islands, and the other for the segment that earned her the award, Tragedy of ‘Time: The Kalief Browder Story,’ in which Reid spoke with Kalief’s brother Deion Browder and filmmaker Julia Mason. Both of these interviews were featured in the segment. She was honored with the Carol Jenkins Visible and Powerful Media Award, presented annually by the Women’s Media Center. This award was given to her in 2016.

A user on Twitter who wishes to remain anonymous uploaded many items written by Reid and published on her blog titled “The Reid Report” between 2007 and 2009. The comments made fun of LGBT people and said that some celebrities were homosexual but pretended to be heterosexual to further their political careers. At first, Reid denied that she wrote these pieces, and she even began an investigation to determine whether or not her site had been hacked.

After conducting an investigation, it was discovered that there had been no attempt at hacking into her blog and that the photographs had been stolen directly from her site. Once some time had passed, she voiced her sorrow. In an interview with Reid, she claimed that she “genuinely does not believe I typed such dreadful things” because “they are utterly alien to me.” Yet, based on what I’ve tweeted and written in the past, it’s easy for me to understand why some people are doubtful of my assertions.
