Keith Van Horn Bio

Keith Adam Van Horn is a former professional basketball player from the United States. In his time in the National Basketball Association (NBA), Van Horn competed for the New Jersey Nets, Philadelphia 76ers, New York Knicks, Milwaukee Bucks, and Dallas Mavericks. Van Horn received his high school diploma from Diamond Bar High School in Diamond Bar, California, and then studied at the University of Utah. Rick Majerus sought for this individual to fill the void left by departed star Josh Grant.

During his tenure at Utah, from 1993 to 1997, he was honored with many All-American accolades for his performance with the Utes. Even though Van Horn’s father passed away in the middle of his first year, the young basketball player set a record for the most points scored by a Utah freshman with 18.3 points per game, shooting 51 percent from the field and grabbing 8.3 rebounds per contest. Van Horn guided his team to the NCAA Tournament as a sophomore.

Van Horn became the first white Player to ever be on the cover of SLAM Magazine during his rookie season, thanks to the achievements of both he and the Nets. In addition, the body of NBA Jam 99 for the Nintendo 64 and Game Boy Color featured him prominently. During his stint with the New Jersey Nets, Van Horn made his home in Franklin Lakes in New Jersey. With his wife, Amy, and their four children, Keith Van Horn calls the town of Bow Mar in Colorado home.

Near the conclusion of Van Horn’s sophomore year at the University of Utah, the birth of his oldest daughter, Sabrina, was followed by his son, Nick, and two further daughters, Noelle and Haley. Sabrina was a member of the Denver-based Mullen High School soccer team. As a volunteer assistant coach, Van Horn lent a hand to the other two of his daughters’ basketball teams. Rick Majerus grew close with Van Horn after he helped him cope with the loss of his father during the first year of his college career. As a result, Majerus was chosen to be Noelle’s godfather.

After purchasing some acreage along the Colorado River and helping establish the Lincoln Hills Fly Fishing Club, he eventually parted ways with the bulk of his ownership stake in the organization. In addition to a real estate investment business and a school for children with special needs, Van Horn is home to a mobile software developer, Accuworks, which is also responsible for founding another mobile software developer, Branded Business Apps.

Around one thousand children from the Denver region participate in the youth basketball program sponsored by Van Horn and his organization, the Colorado Premier Basketball Club. About one thousand children from the Denver metropolitan region participate in leagues, coaching, camps, and tournaments hosted by Colorado’s purportedly biggest basketball club.

In the 1997 WAC Conference Tournament, he became famous for his heroics in the last seconds of games when he won consecutive games by hitting game-winning jumpers against SMU and New Mexico. In 1997, he led the Utes to a 29–4 finish and a #2 national rating by shooting 90.4 percent from the free throw line, averaging 22.0 points and 9.5 rebounds per game, and shooting 90.4 percent from the field overall.

This was the highest result in the history of the institution. Because of this, we could go on to the next round of the NCAA Tournament. In 1997, while he was a senior, he was selected for the first team of All American by a unanimous vote and was honored as the Men’s College Player of the Year by ESPN.

In addition, he was the first Player in WAC history to make first-team all-WAC four years in a row. Van Horn is now the all-time leader in points, defensive rebounds, three-point field goals made, and free throws at the University of Utah. He is also currently in second place in total rebounds. Throughout his time in college, he had an average of 20.8 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. The University of Utah basketball team wore his number 44 jersey until it was retired in 1998.

In February of 2008, he was one of sixteen players selected for the “All-Century” basketball team at the University of Utah. 2012 saw Van Horn’s induction into the Crimson Club Hall of Fame in Utah. The Philadelphia 76ers selected Van Horn as the second overall pick in the 1997 NBA draft. Van Horn became the second Player ever selected with the second overall pick in an NBA draft.

From 1997 through 2002, Van Horn was a member of the Brooklyn Nets. He led the Nets to the 1998 NBA Playoffs, where the Chicago Bulls defeated them in three games, and was nominated to the First franchise of the NBA All-Rookie Team in his first season with the franchise. He led the team in scoring with 19.7 points per game and was the team leader in rebounds with 6.5 per game.

His most excellent season was in 1999, when he scored 21.8 points per game and averaged 8.5 rebounds per game, which was also a career-high for him. During that particular season, on March 26 against the Indiana Pacers, Van Horn scored 22 points and blocked a career-high six shots, despite the game ending in a defeat by a score of 100-91. He was a significant contributor to the Nets squad that won the Eastern Conference Finals in 2001–02, helping the club finish first place in rebounding and second place in scoring.

Van Horn set a new career high for points scored in the playoffs with 27 in Game 5 of their first-round series against the Pacers, a win by a score of 120-109. Later, he made the game-winning three-point shot against the Boston Celtics in game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals to send the Nets to the 2002 NBA Finals. However, the Nets were ultimately swept by the Los Angeles Lakers in the Finals. He is in the top ten for the Nets in numerous statistical categories: points scored, field goals made, three-point field goals made and attempted, offensive and defensive rebounds, and total rebounds.
