Kirby Paul Smart is a coach in the American football league and a former player. He was born on December 23, 1975. His alma university, the University of Georgia, is where he now holds the head football coach position. As the head coach of the Bulldogs, he guided them to consecutive triumphs in the National Championship game in 2021 and 2022.
After spending his childhood in Montgomery, Alabama, Smart was raised in Bainbridge, Georgia. Hines Ward was the most valuable player in the Super Bowl, and Smart was their teammate. As a senior, Smart was named to the first team of All-SEC defensive backs after earning letters all four years, he played defensive back for Georgia. His career total put him fourth all-time at Georgia. In addition to that, he was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll all four years.
Smart received his bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Georgia. He was not selected in the 1999 NFL Draft. Therefore the Indianapolis Colts could sign him as a free agent after the draft. He was a club member for the whole of the 1999 preseason but was released before the beginning of the regular season. After negotiations in July 2022, Georgia and Smart agreed on a 10-year contract extension for $112.5 million. This elevated Smart to the highest-paid coach in all of college football. The Associated Press preseason they pranked Georgia third season. The first game was a win for the club, 49–3, against the #11 ranked Oregon Ducks. After their victory against Oregon, Georgia ascended to the AP Poll.
It continued its streak with seven more wins to set up an unbeaten showdown with Tennessee, ranked first in the College Football Playoff rankings and second in the AP Poll. Peach Bowl champion Georgia pulled off a thrilling 42–41 victory against Ohio State.
Kirby Smart became the first coach to win back-to-back national championships since Nick Saban did it with Alabama in 2011 and 2012. Georgia beat TCU by a score of 65–7 in the National Championship game, making Smart the first coach to do so since 2011.
