Laura Dern Bio

On February 10, 1967, Laura Elizabeth Dern was born in Santa Monica, which is located in Los Angeles County, in the United States of America. She was born to actress Diane Ladd and actor Bruce Dern, both of whom had successful acting careers of their own. Her great-great-grandfather, George Dern, served as both the governor of Utah and the secretary of war during his time in office. As a result of the divorce that occurred in 1969 between Laura’s parents, she stopped communicating with her father at a very young age. She was then raised by her devoutly Roman Catholic mother and grandmother when her father abandoned the family. Because she was so much taller than her peers, Laura had a difficult time developing normally when she was growing up.

She was still in her teens when she reached a height of 1.78 meters and was frequently made fun of by her fellow students for her slouching shape and large feet. Dern began her acting training at the young age of nine when she enrolled at the Lee Strasberg Theater and Film School in New York City. At the age of thirteen, she became independent from her mother after Diane Ladd voiced her opposition to the idea of her appearing in the film “Ladies and Gentlemen, The Fabulous Stains.” Her debut job as an actress was in the movie “White Lightning,” which was released in 1973. However, she did not begin to enjoy popularity until the year 1980, when she appeared in the film Foxes as one of the main characters. Her performance in the film, which debuted in theatres on February 29th, received positive reviews.

After making an appearance in the television series ‘Shannon’ in 1981, Laura Dern went on to play the character of Jessica McNeil in the film ‘Ladies and Gentlemen, The Fabulous Stains a few years later. The judges praised her work in the film and awarded her the title of Miss Golden Globe. After that, Dern had a few supporting roles in television movies such as “Happy Endings” and “The Three Wishes of Billy Grier,” among others. She was also praised for her performance as Diane in the satirical comedy-drama film titled “Teachers,” which earned positive reviews.

In 1985, she was cast in two significant parts, which cemented her reputation as a bankable star in the industry. She made her debut as Diana in the biographical drama titled “Mask,” which starred Cher, and then went on to portray the lead role of Connie in the thriller titled “Smooth Conversation.”The acclaimed filmmaker David Lynch and Laura Dern worked together for the first time in the year 1986 on the film Wild at Heart. In the suspense film ‘Blue Velvet,’ she played the part of Sandy Williams, a woman involved in a murder investigation. Over her career, she would go on to collaborate with Lynch on a total of four further films.
