Machine Gun Kelly Bio

Machine Gun Kelly is an American rapper who was given the birth name Colson Baker. He is known for his singular style and impressive musical ability, which led to his meteoric rise. MGK started rapping when he was still in high school and immediately garnered a big local following through the release of multiple mixtapes. His rapid-fire lyrical flow is supposedly also what gave him the stage moniker Machine Gun Kelly.

MGK is most known for his rapid-fire lyrical flow. His breakthrough occurred in 2006 with the release of the Stamp of Approval mixtape, which attracted the attention of many people. MGK’s decision to pursue a career in music was inspired by the widespread acclaim that his debut mixtape received. After that, he issued a total of four more mixtapes over the course of some time.

After signing a contract with Bad Boy and Interscope Records in 2011, his career began to take off in a big way. The next year, he released his debut album, which was titled Lace Up, to generally favorable reviews from music reviewers. The album made its debut at position number four on the US Billboard 200 chart and featured several well-known singles, including “Hold On,” “Wild Boy,” “Invincible,” and “Stereo” (Shut Up).

After that, he released his second studio album under his own name, titled General Admission, in October of 2015. It made its debut on the Billboard 200 at position number four, and it topped the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart at position number one. Colson Baker, also known by his alias Machine Gin Kelly (MGK), was born on April 22, 1990 in Houston, Texas, in the United States to parents who were involved in mission work.

Kelly spent his early youth living in a variety of locations, including Egypt, Germany, and other states around the United States, as his family relocated frequently over the world. The loss of his mother at such a young age was the first tragedy he experienced. As if this were not enough, his father struggled with both depression and unemployment throughout his life. Richard Colson Baker’s family, friends, and neighbors made fun of him for his behavior.

Rap music provided him with the outlet he needed to feel better about himself. After finishing his time at Hamilton Middle School, he continued his education at Thomas Jefferson High School in Denver. While he was still in high school, he tried out a few different narcotics. Stamp of Approval was the name of the first demo tape he ever recorded as an amateur musician and it was at this time.

After some time, Colson Baker enrolled in the high school at Shaker Heights. It was in this city that he launched his career as a musician. He was successful in persuading the proprietor of a local t-shirt business to also serve as his MC Manager. It was during this time that Baker’s followers gave him the stage name Machine Gun Kelly (MGK) because to his rapid fire delivery; this was a term that remained with him for the rest of his life.

Stamp of Approval was a mixtape that was released by Machine Gun Kelly in the year 2006. The performance earned MGK a reputation as a performer and an artist, and the feedback was so positive that it was overwhelming. He started off by giving performances at several Cleveland-area venues. His breakthrough occurred in 2009 when he won an award at the Apollo Theatre; it was the first-ever victory for a rapper.

When he was then featured on MTV2’s Sucker Free Freestyle, where he free-styled multiple verses from his Chip off the Block record, he was thrust into the national spotlight and began to receive widespread attention. His second mixtape, titled 100 Words and Running, was published in February of 2010. It was on this mixtape that he first used the phrase “Lace Up,” which later became a frequent reference in his music.

The phrase first appeared as an interlude on the mixtape. While this was going on, MGK supported themselves by working at Chipotle. With the release of the single “Alice in Wonderland” in May of 2010, MGK made his first appearance on the national scene. The track was made available for download on iTunes via Block Starz Music. It was met with favorable reviews from critics across the board, and it helped MGK win the title for Best Midwest Artist at the 2010 Underground Music Awards.

Lace Up was MGK’s second mixtape, and it was released in November of 2010. It included the song that serves as the city’s unofficial anthem. After this, he had an appearance on the tune “Inhale” by Juicy J, the music video for which also included Steve-O from the television series Jackass. In March of 2011, MGK was a part of the inaugural SXSW show that took place in Austin, Texas.

After thereafter, he entered into a recording agreement with Bad Boy Records and issued the music video for the song “Wild Boy,” which featured Waka Flocka Flame. In order to promote the record, the duo made an appearance on 106 & Park, which is broadcast on BET.

MGK and Young and Reckless Clothing entered into a partnership in the middle of the year 2011. The following day, March 20, 2012, he issued his debut extended play titled “Half Naked & Famous.” On the Billboard 200, the EP debuted at position number 46.

Lace Up, the first studio album released by MGK, came out in October of 2012. On the Billboard 200 chart in the United States, the album debuted at position number four. The lead song for the album, titled “Wild Boy,” reached its highest position on the US Billboard Hot 100 at number 98. The RIAA promptly awarded it with the gold certification. The track “Invincible” was chosen to serve as the album’s second single release.

It’s interesting to note that the song “Invincible” serves as both the official theme song for WrestleMania XXVIII as well as the theme song for Thursday Night Football on the NFL network. MGK self-released a mixtape under the name EST 4 Life a short while before the release of his first studio album. On this mixtape, he included both previously recorded songs and newer recordings.

The music video for MGK’s song “Champions” was released in February 2013, and it featured Diddy and included a sample from The Diplomats’ song “We are the Champions.” The music video was also used as a promotional film for his brand new mixtape, titled Black Flag, which was eventually released on June 26, 2013. The likes of French Montana, Kellin Quinn, Dub-O, Sean McGee, and Tezo all made cameo cameos in it.

A music video for the song “Till I Die” was uploaded to MGK’s VEVO account on the same day that the song was released, which was January 5, 2015. After some time had passed, he created his own remix of the song, and shortly thereafter, he released his next single, which was accompanied by a music video and given the title A Little More. Fuck It is the name of a mixtape that was published by MGK in July of 2015.

It has ten tracks. It included songs that were cut from the final track list of his second album, General Admission, which is currently in the process of being released. The sixteenth of October, 2015 saw the release of MGK’s second studio album, titled General Admission. Additionally, the album made its entrance onto the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart at the number one spot. MGK disseminated their song titled “Bad Things” in the second half of the year 2016. This collaboration with Camila Cabello resulted in a track that reached number nine on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States. In addition to that, he has released the albums Bloom (2017), Hotel Diablo (2019), and Tickets to My Downfall (2019).

In addition to their work in the music industry, MGK has also appeared in certain films. In 2014, he made his debut in the movie Beyond the Lights, which was his first feature. After that, in 2016, he had a starring part in the comic drama series Roadies on Showtime, playing the character Wesley. In the same year, he also had lead roles in the films Viral, Punk’s Dead: SLC Punk 2, and Nerve.

In the film Bird Box, which was released on Netflix in 2018, he played the role of Felix. The following year, in 2019, he portrayed Tommy Lee in the film The Dirt, also released on Netflix.
