Mike Tyson Bio

Michael Gerard Tyson is a former American professional boxer who fought from 1985 through 2005. He was born on June 30, 1966 in the United States. Tyson is considered one of the best heavyweight boxers of all time. During the early stages of his career, he was known by the monikers “Iron Mike”[4] and “Kid Dynamite.” Later in his career, he became known as “the Baddest Man on the Planet.”

Between 1987 and 1990, he was the unchallenged holder of the world heavyweight champion title. His first 19 professional bouts were all knockout victories for Tyson, 12 of which came in the first round. Tyson is the youngest boxer who has ever won a heavyweight championship. He won his first belt when he was 20 years, four months, and 22 days old, setting a record that still stands today.

He was the first boxer in the history of the heavyweight division to concurrently hold the championships of the WBA, WBC, and IBF, and he was the first fighter in the heavyweight division to unify them in consecutive order. The year after that, Tyson won the lineal championship by knocking out Michael Spinks in 91 seconds of the first round of their fight. In one of the most shocking outcomes in the history of boxing, Tyson was knocked out by the underdog Buster Douglas[9] in 1990.

In 1992, a court found Tyson guilty of rape and sentenced him to six years in jail. However, he was eligible for parole after serving just three years of his sentence. Following his release in 1995, he competed in several comeback bouts, winning back the WBA and WBC belts in 1996. This made him one of only six men in the history of boxing to win back a heavyweight championship after having previously lost it: the others being Floyd Patterson, Muhammad Ali, Tim Witherspoon, Evander Holyfield, and George Foreman.

Evander Holyfield stopped Tyson in the eleventh round to win the WBA championship, which Tyson had previously held after being stripped of the WBC belt earlier in the same year. The rematch between these two boxers in 1997 ended after Tyson was disqualified for biting both of Holyfield’s ears. One of Tyson’s bites was infamously powerful enough to tear off a chunk of Holyfield’s right ear. In 2002, Tyson competed for the world heavyweight championship, but Lennox Lewis defeated him through knockout.

In addition to his vicious and terrifying boxing style, Tyson was notorious for his contentious conduct inside and outside the ring throughout his career. According to The Ring magazine’s list of the 100 best punchers of all time, he was placed 16th, while ESPN’s list of “The Hardest Hitters in Heavyweight History” put him first. His knockout-to-win ratio was 88%.

Sky Sports referred to him as “perhaps the most ferocious fighter to step into a professional ring” in their career analysis. Both the World Boxing Hall of Fame and the International Boxing Hall of Fame have recognized his achievements and admitted him into their respective halls. When Tyson was ten years old, his family was forced to relocate from Bedford-Stuyvesant to Brownsville because of the family’s mounting financial obligations.

During his life, Tyson resided in and near communities with a high percentage of overall criminal activity. According to an interview in Details, his first battle was against a giant youngster who had previously knocked one of Tyson’s pigeons unconscious. Tyson was arrested several times, engaging in minor criminal activity and fights with people who made fun of his lisp and high-pitched voice. He had 38 arrests under his belt when he was 13 years old.

At some point in his life, he attended the Tryon School for Boys in Johnstown, New York. Bobby Stewart, a counselor at a juvenile detention center and a former boxer, was the one who first saw Tyson’s burgeoning boxing talent at that facility. Before bringing Tyson to boxing manager and trainer Cus D’Amato, Stewart instructed him for a few months because he believed Tyson to be an exceptional boxer. D’Amato was also a boxing trainer.

Tyson left high school when he was a junior and never returned. Later, in 1989, Central State University gave him an honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters. Also involved in Tyson’s training was Kevin Rooney, who was sometimes assisted by Teddy Atlas, even though Atlas had been fired by D’Amato when Tyson was 15 years old. Rooney ultimately took up all of the training responsibilities for the young boxer.

In 1981, Tyson defeated Joe Cortez to win the gold medal in the Junior Olympic Games, and in 1982, he won the gold medal by defeating Kelton Brown. Both of these victories earned him the gold medal. In the first round, Brown’s corner conceded defeat and threw in the towel. In 1984, Tyson prevailed over Jonathan Littles to take home the gold medal in the Nation Golden Gloves competition held in New York.

As an amateur, he squared off against Henry Tillman twice but was defeated by decision. Later, in the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, Tillman competed in the heavyweight division and won the gold medal. On March 6, 1985, in Albany, New York, an 18-year-old Mike Tyson debuted on the professional boxing circuit. He knocked off Hector Mercedes in the first round for the victory.

In his debut year as a professional, he participated in 15 fights. Tyson won 26 of his first 28 fights through knockout or technical knockout, with 16 of those victories coming in the first round of their respective bouts. The level of difficulty of his opponents steadily rose to that of journeyman fighters and contenders on the verge of breaking through, such as James Tillis, David Jaco, Jesse Ferguson, Mitch Green, and Frazier.
