Nathan John Feuerstein was birth in Gladwin, Michigan, on March 30, 1991. NF is his stage name. When he was a very young child, his parents went through a divorce. His mother, addicted to opioids, cared for him and his two sisters when they lived with her. Because he and one of his sisters were subjected to physical violence by one of her mother’s boyfriends, her father removed all three children from the home. Because of the tense relationships, the children did not get to spend much time with their mother. NF lost all contact with his mother in high school because he did not like how the judge ordered a social worker to listen in on their conversations. This made him feel uncomfortable.
NF, whose real name is Nathan John Feuerstein, is a rap artist, singer, and songwriter from the United States. He is well-known for the accessible words he includes in his songs and the catchy sounds he uses. He had a challenging upbringing in Michigan, where he was born and raised in the United States. He channeled his inner anguish and rage via his songs, yet it is noteworthy that his song lyrics do not include any swear words, crimes, or feelings of hopelessness.
He found solace in listening to music as well as producing music. Listeners can instantly empathize with his honest words and real feelings, and as a result, he has garnered a large following. Both the “Christian Hip-Hop” and the “Mainstream Hip-Hop” charts have been topped by him. Although NF is known as a “Christian rapper” due to his signing with a prominent “Christian Music” label (Capitol CMG) in the United States, he likes to refer to himself as “an artist who makes music for everybody.”
This is even though NF has been labeled a “Christian rapper.” His extended play (EP) titled ‘NF,’ published in 2014, catalyzed his breakout success. After the popularity of the record, he released three studio albums within three years: “Mansion,” “Therapy Session,” and “Perception.” The album ‘Perception’ produced the song ‘Let You Down,’ which was awarded triple platinum status. His video titled ‘Real’ has received a total of 18 million views on the website known as ‘YouTube.’
In 2009, his mother passed away due to an accidental drug overdose. Later on, he composed the heartbreaking song “How Could You Leave Us” for the album “Therapy Session.” This song tells of the emotional uncertainty of a youngster who couldn’t understand why his mother liked the drugs more than he did, and it was written from the child’s perspective. After hearing this song, a significant number of the audience members admitted to having shed tears. He received his diploma from ‘Gladwin High School’ in the year 2009 after attending that institution. He played basketball for the school and was on the team.
Throughout his youth, he spent a lot of time listening to Eminem’s songs. NF acknowledges that listening to Eminem’s songs significantly influenced his creative process. At twelve, he started creating vocals, rap, ping, and recording songs on a karaoke machine. He recorded his raps on one microphone and the instrumentals on the other. He was a part of the Connection Church’s performance at the ‘Fine Arts Festival’ in Canton, Michigan. In 2008, he took second place in a national rap competition as part of the “Fine Arts Festival.” In 2009, he took first place in Michigan.
In the years when he was having financial difficulties, he supported himself by working as an electrician.
2010 was the year he launched his career as a musician. His first studio album, “Moments,” was independently distributed under his name. After the album gained attention, he was contacted by the music label ‘Xist Music,’ which ultimately led to him being offered a recording contract the following year. At this point, he was performing under the stage name ‘NF.’ The music label had planned to release his extended play titled ‘NF,’ however, the release was delayed owing to a disagreement. On the other hand, NF eventually recorded a song for the compilation album of ‘Xist Music.’
He did not sign with any record company for the following two years. Together with local producer Tommy Profitt, he recorded the song ‘Wake up.’ Under his name, he released the song ‘Beautiful Addiction’ on November 4, 2013; it was his first solo effort. In 2014, he got a recording contract with ‘Capitol CMG’ and simultaneously released an extended play titled ‘NF.’ This became a smash, and it peaked at number 12 on the ‘Billboard’s Christian Albums,’ number 4 on the ‘Top Gospel Albums,’ and number 15 on the ‘Top Rap Albums.’ Several reviews rated The extended play at three and a half stars or higher.
On March 31, 2015, NF gave the world his first studio album, “Mansion,” distributed by “Capitol CMG.” It peaked at number 62 on the ‘Billboard 200’ and included the songs ‘Wake Up,’ ‘Mansion,’ and ‘I’ll Keep On,’ all performed by Fleurie and Jeremiah Carlson, respectively. ‘Epiphany’ by Futuristic, ‘Till the Day I Die’ by TobyMac, and ‘Start Over’ by Flame are just a few of the songs that include his contributions to other artists’ music. NF’s piece “Intro” is used in the American football sports video game “Madden NFL 16,” based on the National Football League.
The tracks ‘I Just Wanna Know’ and ‘Real’ were taken from his upcoming album and were made available as singles on April 8 and April 22, 2016, respectively. The song ‘Real’ music video has racked up more than 18 million views on the website ‘YouTube.’ On April 22, 2016, he released his second studio album, “Therapy Session,” which included the tunes above. It climbed to number 12 on the ‘Billboard 200’ chart and took first place on the ‘Rap Album Chart.’
On September 8, 2016, he released a single that was not included on any album. The track was titled “Warm Up.” During the summer of 2017, he debuted the songs ‘Outro’ and ‘Green Light,’ both of which were subsequently included in his third studio album, ‘Perception.’
