Patton Oswalt Bio

Patton Oswalt is a stand-up comedian and actor from the United States. He has made appearances in several popular comedic series as well as films. Additionally, he is the creator of his successful comedy CDs. Patton, whose father was a Marine Corps commander, did not seem like the kind of person who would pursue a comedy career, but that is precisely what he was meant to do. When he was a kid, his favorite things were reading comic books and watching scary movies.

As a kid, he also acquired an appreciation for humor and found his motivation in the work of comedians such as Steve Martin, Richard Pryor, and Jonathan Winters. He started writing and performing humor when he was still in high school and quickly concluded that comedy should be his career. Even though he was still in school, he launched his career as a stand-up comedian by beginning to do humorous performances at low-key venues. He started his profession while he was still in school. It was pure coincidence that brought him together with Blaine Capatch, who would become his long-term friend and business partner.

With Capatch, he uprooted his life and traveled to Los Angeles, hoping to pursue a career in writing and performing comedy. Initially, he could only get supporting parts in various television programs. His major break came when he was chosen to portray ‘Spence Olchin’ in ‘The King of Queens.’ As time passed, he had been steadily working his way up to increasingly significant parts. After that, things started looking up for him professionally, and he eventually achieved the kind of success as a comedian he had always envisioned. Patton Oswalt was born to Larry Oswalt and Carla, his wife, in Portsmouth, Virginia, in the United States of America, on January 27, 1969.

Because Larry was an officer in the United States Marine Corps, his family relocated somewhat often due to the nature of his job.
After attending that institution, he received his diploma from Virginia’s ‘Broad Run High School’ in 1987. He participated at the ‘College of William & Mary’, where he focused his studies on English and ultimately received his degree in 1991. In 1988, he performed his first stand-up comedy act at an open mic in Washington, District of Columbia. At the time, he was still a student.

Soon after, he launched his comedic career by playing in local bars and clubs in Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia. He met the promising comedian Blaine Capatch while playing in the clubs, and the two of them quickly became fast friends. In 1992, the two individuals journeyed to San Francisco to seek their fortunes. In 1994, they relocated to Los Angeles after relocating from San Francisco. In 1995, Oswalt got a position as a writer for the brand-new comedy program “MAD TV.”

After working there for two seasons, he made his debut on the HBO Half-Hour Comedy Hour in 1997. In the year 1998, he was given a major break when he was cast in the recurring role of “Spencer “Spence” Olchin” in the immensely successful comedy “The King of Queens.” Up to 2007, he appeared in 122 episodes as this character. Between 2003 and 2007, he provided the voice of ‘Professor Dementor for ten episodes of the animated children’s television series ‘Kim Possible.’

During the decade of the 2000s, he was also employed as a voice actor in several different television series. In the television comedy series Reno 911, he provided the voice for several characters between the years 2004 and 2009, including the roles of “Dungeon Master,” “Kenny Rogers,” “Assassin,” and “Boozehammer of Galen.”2007 saw the publication of his comedy CD titled “Werewolves and Lollipops,” which also included a bonus DVD. The album garnered acclaim from critics and was hailed as a timeless example of comedic recording.

After making cameo appearances in movies during the 1990s and early 2000s, he was given a chance to provide his voice to the character of Remy, a young rat who is idealistic and ambitious, in the animated comedy film Ratatouille in the year 2007. In the energetic children’s television series WordGirl, which debuted in 2007, he provided the voices for several additional characters, including “Tobey,” “Robot,” “4th Grader,” and “Irate Driver.” This program will introduce the broad English language and its vocabulary to young viewers.

In the television comedy-drama series ‘United States of Tara,’ which aired from 2009 to 2011, he had a recurring role as ‘Neil’ and featured in 21 episodes. The program’s plot centered around a middle-aged lady living in the suburbs who struggles with a dissociative identity disorder. Both of his comedy albums, “My Weakness is Strong” (2009) and “Finest Hour” (2011), were tremendously successful and reached the top spot on the “U.S. Top Comedy Album Chart” in their respective years. His performance as ‘Matt Freehauf’ in the 2011 comedy-drama ‘Young Adult’ is widely considered his most iconic film role.

Charlize Theron was another one of the stars of the movie. His performance was lauded and recognized for it with several honors and nominations. Between 2012 and 2018, he had roles in several films, including ‘Nature Calls,’ ‘The Secret Life of Walter Mitty,’ ‘Freaks of Nature,’ ‘The Confirmation,’ ‘The Circle,’ and ‘Nostalgia.’Since 2013, he has provided the voice for ‘Adult Adam F. Goldberg in the historical comedy television series ‘The Goldbergs.’In the film “The Secret Life of Pets 2,” released in 2019, he took over for Louis C.K. as the voice of the primary character, “Max.”

His breakout performance came in the movie “Young Adult,” in which he portrayed the role of a guy who was disadvantaged in some way. His work was praised, and as a result, he was nominated for and awarded several accolades. It is by far the most successful picture he has ever made. The role of ‘Matt Freehauf’ in the movie ‘Young Adult’ earned him the ‘New York Film Academy Award for ‘Best Supporting Actor – Comedy’ in 2011. In 2005, he tied the knot with Michelle Eileen McNamara; the couple now has a kid together. McNamara died peacefully while sleeping in Los Angeles, California, on April 21, 2016.

In November 2017, he tied the knot with actress Meredith Salenger. In 2013, he participated in a demonstration against chaining pet dogs via his work with PETA. He is the author of a book named “Zombie Spaceship Wasteland,” which he wrote himself. Additionally, he has provided his voice for several characters in video games. Patton Oswalt has never been one to shy away from being labeled a geek or, for that matter, anything else associated with nerd culture.

After beginning his career as a stand-up comedian and spending more than 20 years touring comedy circuits nationwide, he began headlining in comedy clubs in 1996. This led to several cameo appearances in popular television series such as Seinfeld, MadTV, and NewsRadio. After then, he was offered a regular job on The King of Queens, starring alongside Kevin James, and he hasn’t turned his head since then. Now, he is a legitimate movie star as a leading actor with an outstanding range of wise-cracking supporting parts and voice-over work. He also has an excellent assortment of voice-over gigs.

Larry David is revered to the same level as a deity in humor and among comedians. It was thus an easy decision for Oswalt to accept the offer to appear in his critically acclaimed comedy, Curb Your Enthusiasm, which airs on HBO. In the eleventh season of the show, in the episode titled “The Mini-Bar,” his character, Harry Baskin, makes the error of seeking out David’s counsel over making up an excuse as to why he can’t go on a date with a lady. David’s advice is to tell him to lie to a woman about why he can’t go on a date.

This comedy premiered at SXSW in 2022 and was directed by James Morosini, who also appeared in the film with Oswalt. Chuck, the character that Oswalt portrays, is a parent who, after being banned by his son Franklin on social media, decides to “catfish” his son online. Chuck assumes the identity of a female called “Becca.” The situation becomes so dire that Chuck offers to drive Franklin to Maine so that he may finally meet his internet sweetheart. Oswalt impresses in the role of a father who is eager to participate in his son’s life but may have gone about it incorrectly.

A significant portion of Oswalt’s popularity may be attributed to his unique and comical tone. His vocal abilities are used in the Netflix original series The Sandman, in which he plays the role of Matthew, the Raven. As the Sandman’s (Tom Sturridge) eyes and ears, he travels across several realms and dimensions, reporting back to his master on the various sights and sounds he encounters along the way. In the program’s first season, he appears in seven episodes, and we anticipate that in the second season of The Sandman, we will hear him singing like a bird.
