Polo G is the stage name of American rapper, singer, and composer Taurus Tremani Bartlett. Bartlett was born in the United States. Through the release of the songs “Finer Things” and “Pop Out” (both of which featured Lil Tjay), he came to widespread attention in 2018. The year 2019 saw the release of his first studio album, titled Die a Legend. The album was well acclaimed by critics and debuted at number six on the US Billboard 200 chart. The RIAA also awarded it platinum certification.
The rapper was still in his late teens when he was released from prison and started releasing songs and videos despite being unsigned and not having. The music video for his uplifting and catchy song “Finer Things” was seen tens of millions of times, contributing to his first studio album, Die a Legend, breaking into the Top Ten on the Billboard 200 chart in 2019. The Goat, released in 2020, debuted at number two on the charts, and Hall of Fame, released in 2021, debuted at number one. His future albums did even better. In addition, his song “Distraction” from 2022 made it into the top 40 of the Hot 100.
Polo G was born in 1999 and was reared in the harsh Cabrini-Green area of northern Chicago. By the time he was a teenager, he had already started rapping. Even though some of his early tracks were released online in 2017, it wasn’t until he released his breakthrough hit “Finer Things” that things began to take off for him.
Polo wrote the inspirational song while he was doing time in prison; after he was released, he was able to record it and make a video to accompany it, both of which quickly gained the attention of millions of people. After that, things proceeded very rapidly, as a record deal with Columbia Records was swiftly followed by the release of more singles, which were met with the same level of enthusiasm.
“ODA” was Bartlett’s first recording, and he uploaded it on YouTube shortly after it was completed. In 2018, he opened a SoundCloud account and promptly published the song “Gang With Me,” which swiftly racked up millions of listens after its first release. Bartlett went on to release “Finer Things,” a song he penned while he was behind bars, in the latter part of 2018, and it got millions of views almost immediately after its release.
At the beginning of 2019, Bartlett released “Pop Out” with Lil Tjay. As a direct result of the song’s music video having more than 200 million views on YouTube, he got a recording contract with Columbia Records. Additionally, Bartlett published music videos for the songs “Deep Wounds,” “Through Da Storm,” “Effortless,” and “Dyin’ Breed” off his first studio album Die a Legend. This album was released on June 7, 2019, and reached a high number 6 on the Billboard 200 chart. Mustard contributed production to the song “Heartless,” which was released as a single later in 2019, and the track was eventually included on his second album.
Bartlett released the tune “Go Stupid” on February 14, 2020, which included rapping contributions from Stunna 4 Vegas and NLE Choppa, production contributions from Mike Will Made It, and co-production from Tay Keith. After “Pop Out,” “Go Stupid” was his second single to make it into the Hot 100, reaching its highest position at number 60. The Goat was Bartlett’s second album to be recorded in a studio, and it was released on May 15, 2020.
Eleven tracks from the album made it into the Hot 100, including “Flex” featuring Juice Wrld and “Be Something” featuring Lil Baby, which reached their highest positions at number 30 and number 57, respectively. The album made its debut at number two on the Billboard 200. On the posthumous album Legends Never Die, Juice Wrld released in July, the song “Hate the Other Side” featured Bartlett as a guest artist. On the Billboard Hot 100, the song reached its best position at number 10, making it his first top-ten hit and his highest charting song overall.
On August 11, 2020, it was announced that he would be a member of XXL’s 2020 Freshman Class. Later in the same month, he disseminated the music video for his track “Martin & Gina,” reaching its highest position on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 61. He released the song “Epidemic” in September, and it reached its most elevated position on the Billboard Hot 100 chart at number 47. On October 30, 2020, he appeared as a guest on the song “The Code” by King Von, which is taken from the artist’s first album Welcome to O’Block.
The song charted in Canada and reached its highest position on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 66. Bartlett announced that he was launching his record label called Only, Onlyhieve (ODA), and the musician, Scorey from Syracuse, was his first signee. Bartlett was recognized for his accomplishments in the music area of the 2021 Forbes 30 Under 30 list.
The song “GNF (OKOKOK)” was released as a single by him on February 5, 2021. On February 12, he was included in the movie Judas and the Black Messiah soundtrack. The song “Last Man Standing” was released on that album. In addition, Bartlett was featured in the soundtrack for the film Boogie, which was released on March 5, on the song “Fashion” by the late rapper Pop Smoke. Bartlett worked on the theme “Headshot” with Lil Tjay and Fivio Foreign, and it was released on March 19.
When it was first made available to the public on April 9, 2021, his song “RAPSTAR” immediately shot to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. On May 17, he announced the recording of his third studio album, titled Hall, was complete. On May 21, he released the fourth single from the “GANG GANG” album featuring Lil Wayne. The song reached its highest position on the Hot 100 at number 33.
The album Hall of Fame was released by Bartlett on June 11, and it became his first number-one album in the United States, where it debuted at the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart. Evil Man (Smooth Criminal), a song that sampled Michael Jackson and was released in 1988, was Bartlett’s long-awaited release, and it was finally available on November 12. And last but not least, on December 3, Bartlett launched Hall of Fame 2.0 with 14 new tunes.
