Bashar Barakah Jackson was birth on July 20, 1999, in Brooklyn, New York, to a Panamanian mother named Audrey Jackson and a Jamaican father named Greg Jackson. Bashar Barakah Jackson is of Panamanian, Jamaican, and Jamaican-American descent. There was an elder brother who went by the name Obasi. While growing up in Canarsie, Brooklyn, Jackson attended nine different schools. As a young boy, he served the congregation of his hometown church by playing the African drums. Jackson was placed under house arrest for two years after he was charged with having a firearm.
As a result of this, he was expelled from eighth grade for bringing a pistol to school. When Jackson first picked up a basketball, he played the position of point and shooting guard. He uprooted his life and moved to Philadelphia to attend Rocktop Academy. He was eventually fired after receiving the news that he had a heart murmur. After that, Jackson became involved in street life. Rapper, singer, and composer Pop Smoke was originally from the United States. Many people considered him the embodiment of what the Brooklyn Drill was all about. Pop Smoke kicked out his musical career in late 2018 by releasing his first track, “Mpr (Panic Part 3 Remix).” Pop Smoke was born and raised in the neighborhood of Canarsie in Brooklyn.
Pop Smoke’s “Welcome to the Party” and “Dior” singles, released in 2019, are largely credited for his meteoric rise to stardom. He often worked with drill musicians and producers from the United Kingdom, who used instrumentation that was more basic and aggressive than that used by Chicago-based drill artists. In April 2019, after Rico Beats’ meteoric climb to stardom, Pop Smoke was presented to Steven Victor for the first time. After some time, Victor would have Pop Smoke sign a recording deal with Victor Victor Worldwide and Republic Records.
In July 2019, he released his first mixtape under Meet the Woo. Meet the Woo 2, the rapper’s second mixtape was released on February 7, 2020, and debuted at number seven on the Billboard 200, making it the first project the rapper has published in the United States to reach the top 10 in sales. Pop Smoke was killed in a home invasion in Los Angeles less than two weeks after the mixtape he had just released was made available to the public. Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon, the posthumous first studio album of the late New York rapper Tupac Shakur, was released on July 3, 2020. Fellow New York rapper 50 Cent served as the album’s executive producer.
The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 list, while all 19 singles peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Additionally, the album gave rise to several songs that charted in the top ten of foreign charts, such as “For the Night” (which included DaBaby and Lil Baby) and “What You Know Bout Love.” In an interview with Genius, he said that the moniker Pop Smoke, which he uses as an artist, is a mix of two names: Poppa, which was a name that his Panamanian grandmother gave him, and Smocco Guwop, which was a nickname he received from his childhood pals. In 2018, he started his career as a musician by going to a recording studio in Brooklyn with another local rapper, Jay Gwuapo.
After becoming stoned on narcotics, Gwuapo eventually slept off to sleep. Pop Smoke entered the recording studio to rap for the first time to test his abilities in this regard. He made a song called “Mpr (Panic Part 3 Remix)” using a beat that he obtained from the YouTube channel 808Melo. The song “Flexin'” was released by him on January 28, 2019. During this time, Pop Smoke developed a friendship with producer Rico Beats, who already had a connection to record executive Steven Victor. The three of them organized an interview, and by April 2019, Pop Smoke had signed a recording contract with Victor Victor Worldwide, a Universal Music division.
The hit track “Welcome to the Party” by Pop Smoke, produced by 808Melo, was released on April 23, 2019. Later, two other song versions with different artists, including Nicki Minaj and Skepta, were produced and released. On July 26, 2019, Pop Smoke disseminated his first mixtape under Meet the Woo. Many singles, including “War” with Lil Tjay and “100k on a Coupe” with Calboy, were scheduled to be released by Pop Smoke in October and December 2019.
On December 27, 2019, Pop Smoke appeared on the song “Gatti,” included in the compilation album JackBoys that Travis Scott’s Cactus Jack Records released. A music video also accompanied the song. On the US Billboard Hot 100, “Gatti” was Pop Smoke’s first entry and reached its highest position at number 69. This was also Pop Smoke’s first time appearing on the Hot 100. The song “Christopher Walking” was published by Pop Smoke on January 16, 2020. Meet the Woo 2 is the second mixtape that Pop Smoke has published. It was released on February 7, 2020, with guest appearances from Quavo, A Boogie with da Hoodie, Fivio Foreign, and Lil Tjay.
It was Pop Smoke’s first top-10 hit in the United States, and the mixtape opened at number seven on the Billboard 200 chart in the United States. A deluxe version of the album was made available five days after its initial release. This edition included three additional tracks, each with a guest appearance by Nav, Gunna, or PnB Rock. To promote both of his mixtapes, Pop Smoke has been dropping hints on social media about his upcoming first headlining concert tour, Meet the Woo Tour. It was initially intended to start in the United States in March and finish in the United Kingdom in April.
