Robert Wagner Bio

Detroit-born R.J. Wagner was born in 1930, the son of a steel industry executive. When he was seven years old, his family relocated to Los Angeles. As someone who had always dreamed of being an actor, he worked in a variety of jobs (including one as a golf caddy for Clark Gable) while pursuing his ambition, but it was while dining with his parents at a restaurant in Beverly Hills that he was “discovered” by a casting director. Following his uncredited feature film debut in The Happy Years (1950), Wagner was signed by 20th Century Fox, which worked diligently to elevate him to the status of a movie star.

It wasn’t until he played a shell-shocked war veteran in With a Song in My Heart (1952) that studio bosses realised he had the potential to be a dramatic actor. He had previously been known for playing romantic leads. In the following years, he starred in films such as Prince Valiant (1954) and The True Story of Jesse James (1957), and he also played a cold-blooded murderer in A Kiss Before Dying (1959). (1956). But, following the release of The Pink Panther in the mid-’60s, his film career came to a grinding halt (1963). Following that, Wagner had several years of unemployment before landing a solid role on television as the star of the comedic espionage series It Takes a Thief (1968).

In addition to Hart to Hart (1979), Wagner appeared on the police drama Switch (1975), but his most notable role was as Stefanie Powers on the internationally successful Hart to Hart (1979), which ran from 1979 to 1984 and has since been sporadically revived in TV movie form (another series, Lime Street (1985), was quickly cancelled due to the tragic death of Wagner’s young co-star, Samantha Smith). In addition to maintaining his famous leading man profession, Robert Wagner has begun a successful stage career, touring with Stefanie Powers in the readers’ theatre production “Love Letters.”

The following seven films were filmed with his wife Jill St. John: Banning (1967), How I Spent My Summer Vacation (1967), Around the World in Eighty Days (1989), The Player (1992), Something to Believe In (1998), The Calling (2002), and Northpole (2003). Banning was his first film (2014). On television, she appeared as a guest star in the pilot episode of his series Hart to Hart (1979), and she and he appeared together as guests on the Seinfeld sitcom (1989).

In June 2000, he filed a $20 million lawsuit against Aaron Spelling Productions, alleging that he had been cheated out of earnings from the Fox soap opera Beverly Hills, 90210. (1990). His claim was that he was entitled to profits as a result of an agreement reached between producer Aaron Spelling and Fox ten years ago that granted Spelling the right to produce “Beverly Hills, 90210” in exchange for “Angels 88,” a never-produced series in which Wagner had a stake and which was never broadcast. According to the lawsuit, the dispute dates back to 1973, when he and his then-wife, Natalie Wood, struck an agreement with Spelling in which they agreed to submit ideas for pilots to ABC in exchange for money. After submitting a few ideas, the duo came up with the concept for the action series Charlie’s Angels (1976). According to the rules of their agreement, Spelling, Wagner, and Wood each received an equal portion of the revenues from the series. In 1988, Spelling created a new television series called “Angels 88.”

Wagner was entitled to a 7.5 percent profit participation share under the terms of their agreement, regardless of whether or not he provided services to the company. He was unaware that Fox had committed to the project, and the network later reneged, offering Spelling the series “Beverly Hills, 90210” in its instead. With the understanding that Spelling was handed “Beverly Hills, 90210” in exchange for an asset in which Wagner had a financial interest, Wagner asserted that he was entitled to the same profit share on “Beverly Hills, 90210” as he was on “Angels 88.”

Lana Wood’s ex-brother-in-law, now living in California. During the production of the James Bond film Diamonds Are Forever (1971), his wife Jill St. John appeared beside Lana Wood, Lana Wood’s real-life sister, who was also a cast member in the film. When photographer Annie Leibovitz requested for a shot of the two of them together during a Bond girl reunion photo shoot for “Vanity Fair” magazine in September 1999, a fight ensued between Wood and St. John, who were both present. According to Wood, St. John was so passionately opposed to the concept that it nearly brought him to tears. A publicist for the pair said that it was he who had objected to the photograph because Wagner did not want his current wife to be seen with his ex-sister in law.

During the bathtub sequence in The Pink Panther (1963), he was submerged at one point in an industrial-strength foaming solution, which caused him to lose his vision for four weeks. The studio wanted him to be replaced, but director Blake Edwards stood by him and saw the project through to completion.

In the film The Mystery of Natalie Wood, Michael Weatherly plays the role of Natalie Wood (2004). Tony DiNozzo Sr., the father of Weatherly’s character Tony DiNozzo, was played by him in the television series NCIS (2003).

Collaboration with Gavin Lambert (author of the novel and screenplay Inside Daisy Clover (1965), which starred Wagner’s late wife Natalie Wood) on the biography “Natalie Wood” (2004).  Lambert’s book is intended to correct the general public’s misconceptions about Wood, which have been shaped by the tabloid headlines generated by her tragic death. It’s important to note that Lambert’s book has numerous chronological inaccuracies regarding Wood’s parents’ origins, which should be pointed out.

Riley John Wagner, the son of his daughter Katie Wagner, was born on September 21, 2006, and he became a grandfather for the first time. He just sold the Brentwood ranchette he’d shared with Jill St. John since 1983 for $14 million and relocated to Aspen, Colorado, with his wife and business partner. [Aug. 2007] [August 2007] [August 2007] [August 2007] His family relocated to Los Angeles when he was seven years old, where he attended military academies and The Harvard School of Design.

His first acting opportunity came as a result of a trip to Warner Bros. with one of his friends, when he met with the head of casting. The studio informed him that he will be cast in two or three tiny roles in the near future after an interview and a reading. He was thrilled to hear this news. A strike broke out two days later, causing all manufacturing plans to be postponed.

For many years, his bungalow at Universal Studios served as a stop on their tour of the theme park complex. He was a major star at the studio, and he had a successful run of three television programmes during his time there. Prior to Wagner, Lucille Ball, another star with a lengthy history of success on television, had the same home and tour stop as Wagner.

It was bestowed with two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame: one for Motion Pictures at 7021 Hollywood Boulevard and another for Recording at 7001 Hollywood Boulevard. He and his wife Jill St. John, as well as his deceased previous wife Natalie Wood and his co-star in the film Hart to Hart (1979), Stefanie Powers, all went to ballet classes together as children.

Yvonne De Carlo, Joan Crawford, Elizabeth Taylor, Anita Ekberg, Shirley Anne Field and Lori Nelson were among the women mentioned in his memoirs to have had affairs with him. Originally planned to co-star with Victor Mature and Debra Paget in The Proud Ones, but the project was scrapped (1956). Both his paternal and maternal grandparents were born in Germany, but his paternal grandparents were born in Norway.

In his memoirs, he claims to have had a four-year romance with Barbara Stanwyck, who was more than 20 years his senior. He claimed that she was his first great love and that she had given him more than any other lady in his life up until that point.

In his biography, he describes how, when in Paris for the filming of The Longest Day (1962), he made a clumsy decision as he was ready to return to his hotel one night. He was inebriated and snatched the man behind the desk since the employee did not recognise him as a customer. It turned out that he had checked into the wrong hotel by mistake.

He is most known to the general public for his role as Jonathan Hart in the television show Hart to Hart (1979). As Senior Class President at Santa Monica High School in California, I graduated with honours.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department resumed its investigation into Natalie Wood’s death in November 2011 as a result of allegations made by Dennis Davern, the captain of the yacht from which Wood disappeared on the night she perished. According to Lana Wood and Marti Rulli, the investigation is still underway as of the year 2017.

Lt. John Corina of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau says Wagner’s tale regarding Natalie Wood’s death “simply doesn’t make up,” and he has identified Wagner as a Person of Interest. [February 2018] [English] In the middle of October 1981, according to reports, Wagner made a series of phone calls to the Los Angeles/Long Beach Coast Guard base in San Pedro, California, in order to learn about search and rescue protocols.

Prior to their marriage in 1963, he and Marion Marshall had been engaged for two years. Since 1959, he has been acquainted with his wife, Jill St. John. They’ve been together since 1982, which was eight years before their marriage.

It was proposed by MGM in 1960 that they make an all-male remake of The Women (1939), which would have been dubbed “Gentlemen’s Club.” The film was never made. After learning from his friends that his wife is having an affair with another man (Earl Holliman), a man (Jeffrey Hunter) travels to Reno to file for divorce and start a new life, but finds himself doing everything in his power to rectify the situation when he discovers that the other man is only interested in money and position. He makes the decision to try to win his wife back once more. Even though nothing came of this project, the cast would have included the following actors: Jeffrey Hunter (Martin Heal), Earl Holliman (Christopher Allen), Tab Hunter (Simon Fowler), Lew Ayres (Count Vancott), Robert Wagner (Mitchell Aarons), James Garner (Peter Day), Jerry Mathers (Little Martin), Ronald Reagan (Larry), Troy Donahue (Norman Blake), and Stuart Whitman (Simon Fowler) (Oliver, the bartender who spills the beans about the illicit affair).

Despite the fact that he had a second surname, he never legally adopted his ex-stepdaughter Natasha Gregson Wagner, as the name suggests. Richard Smedley’s ex-brother-in-law was born in the same year as him. As of 2018, he has acted in two films that have been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture: The Longest Day (1962) and The Towering Inferno (1998). (1974).

She co-starred in six films with Jeffrey Hunter, including The Frogmen (1951), White Feather (1955), A Kiss Before Dying (1956), The True Story of Jesse James (1957), In Love and War (1958), and The Longest Day (1959). She was born in New York City and raised in California (1962).

While he was engaged to Tina Sinatra, her father, Frank Sinatra, was dating Jill St. John for a brief period in the early 1970s, during which time he was engaged to her. Both spouses would have became stepmothers in law if they had made it to the altar in both cases.

When Paramount failed to accommodate his scheduling issues with It Takes a Thief, he was the first option for the role of Guy Woodhouse in Rosemary’s Baby (1968), he turned it down (1968).

His marriage to Jill St. John has lasted longer than all of their previous six marriages combined, according to their records. She had already been divorced three times, whilst Wagner had been divorced twice and widowed once before their marriage. Peter Donen and his brother Joshua Donen were raised by their stepfather.

Cooper Mount (stepson of Wagner’s ex-stepson Joshua Donen), Oliver and Felix Watson (stepsons of Wagner’s ex-stepdaughter Natasha Gregson Wagner), and Clover Watson are the four “surrogate” grandkids of Wagner. Cooper Mount is the stepson of Wagner’s ex-stepson Joshua Donen (daughter of Natasha and Barry Watson). Riley Wagner, the son of Katie Wagner, is his sole biological grandchild. Neither he nor his daughter Courtney Wagner have ever married or given birth to a kid.

Following his appearance on Larry King Live (1985) on July 16, 2002, author Suzanne Finstad issued him a sharply worded cease-and-desist letter, alleging that he defamed her during the programme. Since then, Wagner has refused to accept the existence of Finstad.

When his previous Brentwood property was placed on the market in 2021, it sold for $10 million, which was $2 million less than the price he paid for it in 2007. The house’s subsequent owner, video game heiress Rita Kogan, who died in 2019, never moved in and allowed the home to stay unoccupied for nearly 12 years before selling it to a developer.

JS International Inc. wrecked his old 55-foot yacht “Splendour,” which had been dismantled by the company. [1st of January, 2020] [a reference to his grief over the drowning of his wife Natalie Wood in 1981] Natalie’s death had left me feeling resentful. I’m still enraged about it, and I’m perplexed as to why it had to happen. I’m experiencing all of the emotions of grief and rage that anyone who has lost someone they care about goes through. I had led a charmed life until I was betrayed by a lovely woman whom I cherished with all my heart.

Natalie Wood was dating Warren Beatty at the time of this writing. I had a strong desire to murder that son of a b*tch… I was waiting outside his house with a rifle, hoping that he would come out and let me in. Not only did I want to kill him, but I was fully prepared to do so.

Unlike other people, Jill [Jill St. John] did not attempt to put the lights on the Christmas tree; she was just present for me. I was completely shattered. Without me putting those parts back together, I don’t think our relationship could have progressed any further; and with Jill’s and a lot of other people’s assistance, I began to do so. It’s still in the works as of 2009 (when this article was written). However, I’m in a pretty good mood right now. I’ve become more authentic to my true self. Taking pleasure in life as it unfolds and being able to see without tears in my eyes are vital to me.

Jill is exceptionally clever, compassionate, and endowed with what I can only describe as a “talent for life.” Jill has been there for me every step of the way. You couldn’t possibly ask for anything more from a human being. Furthermore, there is the fact that she is lovely and compassionate, and she is a fantastic wife who is 100 percent committed to me.
