Stevie Wonder Bio

Stevie Wonder is a musician, singer, and composer from the United States. Many people believe that he was one of the musical artists of the 20th century who had the most original ideas. He was born without sight but was already a child prodigy by the time he was eight years old. He was an accomplished pianist. At twelve, he debuted as a recording artist under the stage name “Little Stevie Wonder” after securing a recording deal with the “Motown” record company.

After that, he established himself as a talented artist with the release of the hit track ‘Fingertips.’ It was clear from his fiery performance of the thumping hit ‘Uptight (Everything’s Alright)’ that a fascinating performer had arrived. In the years that followed, Wonder amassed a string of successes and multiple chart-topping singles, some of which include “I Was Made to Love Her” and “For Once in My Life.”

In the 1970s, his albums generated a constant stream of great successes, including ‘Superstition,’ ‘You Are the Sunshine of My Life,’ ‘Living for the City,’ ‘I Wish,’ and ‘Sir Duke.’ In the 1980s, Wonder had the most success with his music. During this period, he achieved a degree of recognition that had never been seen before, increasing record sales, high-profile collaborations, and television appearances.

Throughout his career, Wonder has released a significant number of albums that have received positive reviews, as well as successful songs. To date, he holds the record for the most Grammy Awards won by a solo artist, with a total of twenty-five. He is often ranked as one of the most successful musicians ever. On May 13, 1950, in Saginaw, Michigan, United States of America, Stevie Wonder was born Stevland Hardaway Judkins to his parents, Calvin Judkins and Lula Mae Hardaway.

He was the third of the family’s six children to be born. Because he was born six weeks before his due date, he suffered from retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), which led to a loss of eyesight. He began his musical career at a young age, teaching himself to play several instruments and then teaming up with a close friend to perform as a singing duo. The two musicians, who went by the stage names “Stevie and John,” performed their music on street corners and, on occasion, at gatherings.

When Wonder was eleven years old, he sang a song of his invention named “Lonely Boy” for the musician Ronnie White, a co-founder of the musical group “The Miracles.” Soon after that, he was signed to the ‘Tamla’ label of Motown and was given the moniker ‘Little Stevie Wonder.’His first record, the well-known tune “I Call It Pretty Music, But the Old People Call It the Blues,” was issued for sale to the public in 1962. The year after, his “Recorded Live: The 12-Year-Old Genius” record was made available to the public.

The track “Fingertips,” featured on the album, became a massive success once it was released. Wonder had a string of further singles in the middle of the 1960s, including ‘With a Child’s Heart’ and ‘Blowin’ in the Wind,’ amongst others. Between 1968 and 1970, he successfully released several singles, the most well-known of which are ‘I Was Made to Love Her,’ ‘For Once in My Life,’ and ‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours.’

In 1970, Wonder worked on his next album, titled “Where I’m Coming From,” with the assistance of his wife, Syreeta. Together, they contributed to the record. After its release the year after, the album achieved a modest popularity level. It was in March of 1972 that he published his album “Music of My Mind.” The album’s release heralded the start of Wonder’s ‘classic phase.’ In the same year, he also distributed the album titled “Talking Book,” which had singles like “Superstition” and “You Are the Sunshine of My Life,” among other songs.

Throughout the years that followed, he released a string of critically acclaimed albums, including ‘Innervisions’ (1973), ‘Fulfillingness’ First Finale’ (1974), ‘Songs in the Key of Life’ (1976), and ‘Stevie Wonder’s Journey Through the Secret Life of Plants’ (1979). By the late 1970s, Stevie Wonder had established himself as the black artist with the highest level of critical acclaim, thanks to the success of these albums.

It was in the 1980s that he released albums like “Hotter Than July” (1980) and “Stevie Wonder’s Original Musiquarium” (1982), which propelled him to the pinnacle of his career and brought him the most renown. In 1984, he was responsible for recording the soundtrack CD for the film “The Woman in Red,” which included the song “I Just Called to Say I Love You,” which went on to win an Academy Award.

After publishing his album titled “Characters” in 1987, he went on to record the soundtrack album for the film “Jungle Fever,” published in 1991. The year 1995 saw the publication of his album titled “Conversation Peace.” It included popular songs like “For Your Love” and “Tomorrow Robins Will Sing,” among others. In the first decade of the new century, he released the album ‘A Time to Love’ 2005. In the years that followed, he embarked on a tour throughout North America and performed at various events, one of which was the ‘Obama Inaugural Celebration’ in 2009.
