Tamron Hall Bio

Born on September 16th, 1970 in Luling, Texas, Tamron Hall is an American actress. Her mother Mary Newton and stepfather Clarence Newton Sr. were her primary carers as a child. I was born to a different father, but God brought in my stepfather who should be my dad,” Tamron explained in an interview. Her stepfather, a veteran who had spent the better part of his adult life serving in the military, instilled in her a respect for authority and discipline, and also pushed her toward a career in journalism. She graduated from Temple University with a BA in Broadcast Journalism. Award-winning journalist Tamron Hall is teaming up with Weinstein Television for a new daytime talk show that will premiere in 2018. This broadcast journalist has been in the business for around 25 years, and she will host and executive produce the discussion show (which has yet to be named) as well as other shows on Weinstein Television.

Previously, she anchored “Deadline: Crime with Tamron Hall” on Investigation Discovery. Tamron is a former NBC News and MSNBC dayside anchor and winner of the Lew Klein Alumni in Media Award from Temple University. She was a co-anchor of ‘Today’s Take’ and the former host of MSNBC’s ‘Life with Tamron Hall.’ Her latest Investigation Discovery episode, “Guns on Campus: Tamron Hall Investigates,” marked the 50th anniversary of the tower shooting at the University of Texas under her stewardship. Many MSNBC and NBC News specials, such as “Making the Grade,” “Debating the Black Agenda,” “Dateline,” “Rock Center,” “Education Nation: Teacher Town Hall,” and many more, have been hosted by her. Hall is actively involved with a number of groups that work to combat issues like homelessness, illiteracy, and domestic violence.

Her work and dedication to ending domestic violence have been acknowledged by a New York City-based advocacy group for victims of abuse in the home. Tamron is an active participant in the NAACP Journalists Association. She has been profiled in numerous high-profile publications and media outlets, including Forbes, Ebony, Marie Claire, Uptown, the Huffington Post, AOL Black Voices, and Women’s Health, to name a few. At the beginning of her career, Tamron Hall worked as a general assignment reporter for KBTX in Bryan, Texas. She later relocated to KTVT in Fort Worth, Texas, which is a CBS-owned and -operated television station serving Dallas.

Being a native Chicagoan, she covered political news for WFLD-TV, a Fox-owned and -operated station, after she was hired in 1997. She was the anchor of WFLD-three-hour TV’s ‘Fox News in the Morning’ and reported on numerous “breaking news” stories, such as the tragic Amtrak train-truck crash that occurred in 1999. Her ‘The Bottom Line’ consumer report section premiered in 1999. She was the weekday morning anchor at WFLD-TV, as well as a general assignment reporter and a consumer reporter. After seven years at WFLD-TV, she left in 2007. In 2007, she started working for MSNBC, a national news network, where she remained for the next decade. She was a general assignment reporter and fill-in anchor who initially rose to popularity while co-anchoring the show ‘Countdown with Keith Olbermann with him.

Her 2008 interview with Barack Obama, conducted before he declared his candidature for president, was a huge hit. Then, from June 2009 until January 2010, she co-hosted David Shuster’s two-hour show, “The Big Picture.” When “News Nation” premiered in 2010, she was its host. It ran on weekdays and featured celebrity interviews and reports on US, international, and entertainment news. It also streamed live from Ground Zero in New York City after the announcement of Osama bin Laden’s death. Both Hurricane Isaac in 2012 and the final space shuttle launch in 2011 were covered by her. She covered Barack Obama’s inauguration for NBC News in its October 2010 special.

In September of 2013, she launched a new series on Investigation Discovery titled “Deadline: Crime with Tamron Hall.” Hall and her team of investigators revealed the whys and hows of each incident for this weekly news magazine. Her older sister’s murder, which has never been solved, is the inspiration for the program. In 2014, she became the first African-American woman to serve as a co-anchor on NBC’s ‘Today,’ making her a trailblazer in the television industry. She frequently filled in for Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie, the show’s regular co-hosts. She interviewed several famous people for the show, including Instagram’s CEO Kevin Systrom, Hugh Jackman, and Mariah Carey. In 2014, she appeared on an episode of “Running Wild with Bear Grylls” in which she and Bear Grylls spent two days hiking across treacherous terrain in the Pink Cliffs of southwestern Utah. By February of 2017, Hall had left both NBC News and MSNBC.

Word on the street is that she found out she will be demoted from her co-anchor position on ‘Today.’ Because of the addition of a new daytime discussion show, her show was getting axed by one hour. She reportedly turned down a “substantial financial incentive” from NBC to stay with the network. She began working with Harvey Weinstein, CEO of The Weinstein Company and co-founder of the film and television studio Miramax, in July 2017. Her new position is multifaceted, as she will not only host but also serve as executive producer of her own daytime talk show. In 2018, the show will premiere with segments covering entertainment news, current events, interviews, and human interest stories. Other planned Weinstein Television shows will have her as an executive producer as well. Tamron Hall is active in several different humanitarian groups and their initiatives to end homelessness, illiteracy, and domestic violence. She received acclaim for her openness and for bringing attention to the subject of domestic and dating violence when she recounted the circumstances behind her sister’s untimely death in a 2010 article for theGrio.com.

Hall’s show was canceled and replaced with one hosted by Megyn Kelly, formerly of Fox News; Kelly is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists, which has accused NBC of “whitewashing” for this decision. Kelly “has a well-documented history of discriminatory remarks regarding persons of color,” the group added to their criticism of her. Hall spoke out against domestic violence through the “Shine A Light” campaign launched by Today. Abuse in intimate relationships, homelessness, hunger, and other social ills are also targets of the program’s efforts. Through the formation of a Public Schools Association, she hopes to educate students and faculty on the prevalence of physically and emotionally abusive teen relationships.

She helps raise money for Day One New York, Inc., which is dedicated to ending dating abuse. They have already raised almost $40,000! In 1999, Tamron Hall’s ‘The Bottom Line consumer report segment on WFLD-TV was nominated for an Emmy. In October of 2010, she received an Emmy for her coverage of “The Inauguration of Barack Obama” on NBC. From Temple University, she graduated with the 2010 Lew Klein Alumni in the Media award. In 2011, her program “Education Nation: Teacher Town Hall” garnered her an Emmy nomination. In 2016, her coverage of domestic violence earned her the Edward R. Murrow Award. Tamron Hall would like to keep her personal life a secret. She is a news anchor for MSNBC, and there have been speculations that she is dating The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell host Lawrence O’Donnell. It’s unclear if she was joking when, in January 2017, she said she was dating a man named “Tony.”

Her stepfather’s daughter, Renate Moore, was discovered dead in the family’s small backyard pool in Houston, Texas, in 2004. Moore was severely beaten and bludgeoned to death before her body was dumped in the pool. Years of dating violent men led to the crime. Leroy Moore, her son, was left behind after she passed away. A contract for the show’s production was signed between Hall and DADT on August 8, 2018. In late September 2018,[9] ABC Owned Television Stations picked up the series, and over the following months, other station groups, including Hearst Television, also acquired the rights to air the show. DADT stated on March 4, 2019, that the premiere date of the show will be September 9, 2019, and as of March 10, 2019, the show had received coverage in 85% of the United States and 47 of the country’s top 50 television markets.

It will likely replace both Who Wants to Be a Millionaire (which will end its 20-year run on ABC in May 2019[12]) and Right This Minute on the network’s owned-and-operated stations. Bill Geddie, a veteran of The View’s production team, was promoted to executive producer in January 2019 by ABC Entertainment. Talia Parkinson-Jones, now an executive producer, will be promoted to the position of co-executive producer on The Wendy Williams Show in June 2019. The ABC Broadcast Center on the West Side of Manhattan is where the show is taped. Due to the wide spread of the COVID-19 virus, Walt Disney Television pulled the plug on the series on March 13, 2020. The series’ March 30 comeback to television was revealed in the later part of the month, with the announcement that taping will take place at Hall’s house. After the exits of Geddie and Parkinson-Jones as executive producer and showrunner on March 18, it was reported that The View’s executive producer, Candi Carter, would be joining the show.
