Tiwa Savage Bio

Tiwa Savage is a multi-talented artist who excels as a singer, songwriter, actress, and performer. She is recognized as one of the up-and-coming talents in the Nigerian music business. The vocalist has been nominated for a Grammy, even started providing background vocals for George Michael. Since then, she has collaborated with well-known artists, including Kelly Clarkson, Mary J. Blige, and Chaka Khan.

Savage has performed with influential figures in the music business such as Destiny’s Child, Sting, and Eminem during her lengthy career, which has spanned 22 years. She has written songs for various artists, including Fantasia Barrino, who won the first season of American Idol, and Babyface, who has won several awards. As of 2018, she has released two albums that were recorded in a studio and has been included on one compilation album.

Currently, Savage is signed to a songwriting agreement with ‘Sony/ATV Music Publishing’ as well as a recording contract with the Nigerian record company ‘Mavin Records.’ In 2016, she also revealed that she had signed a management and publishing agreement with Roc Nation, a Sony-affiliated company that Jay-Z created. As a result of her extensive time spent in Nigeria, the United Kingdom, and the United States, Savage is fluent in two languages.

She sings in both English and Yoruba most of the time. She has one kid from a previous marriage and has been married before. In 2016, she announced that she was ending her marriage. She is intent on improving her professional standing. Tiwatope Savage–Balogun was born on February 5, 1980, in Ikeja, the capital of Lagos. It is said that the singer has at least two brothers and one sister, even though his life is a secret from the public.

When she was 11 years old, her family moved to London, United Kingdom, which allowed the singer to have a fully international childhood. Savage was a member of the school orchestra band and played the trombone there when she was a high school student in the UK. Reportedly, Savage’s education at the ‘University of Kent,’ where she earned a degree in business administration, has aided her in navigating the nuances of the global music industry. Savage is a member of the band Savage.

After receiving this degree, Savage went on to spend some time working for the “Royal Bank of Scotland.”She decided to devote more of her time and energy to music when she was given the chance to provide background vocals for Mary J. Blige. She was awarded a scholarship to study professional music at the highly regarded ‘Berklee College of Music,’ from which she graduated at 27.

After that, she began a fruitful career in the music industry. At sixteen, Savage kicked out her professional career by providing backup vocals for the British music sensation George Michael. Since then, she has collaborated vocally with various internationally renowned artists, including Mary J. Blige, Blue Cantrell, Emma Bunton, Kelly Clarkson, and Andrea Bocelli.

She has performed on the same stage as illustrious artists such as Destiny’s Child, Sting, 50 Cent, ‘The Black Eyed Peas,’ Robbie Williams, Eminem, and other luminaries in the music industry. While she was still a student at Berklee, she tried out for the British version of the reality program ‘The X Factor’ in 2006. Savage describes her time on the program as an experience that opened her eyes to the negative aspects of fame, even though she made it to the final 24.

The singer reportedly had a tough time adapting to the limelight and afterward characterized the news that she would not proceed to the final 12 as “painful.” The rumors suggest that the artist had difficulty adjusting to the spotlight. In 2009, she successfully concluded a songwriting agreement with the industry behemoth ‘Sony/ATV,’ which paved the way for her to compose jobs with artists such as Fantasia Barrino, Monica, Babyface, and Ma.

The song “Catch Me,” which she recorded with Monica and has a soul-influenced sound, is the most renowned of her duets. Another notable collaboration was with Fantasia on the song “Collard Greens & Cornbread,” which was submitted for a Grammy award the following year.

During this same period, Savage penned the single “Push Push” for Kat Deluna, which featured DJ David Guetta and the Senegalese phenomenon Akon. He also wrote the song “Oh Yeah” for the Bajan pop performer Jaicko, featuring American rap superstar Snoop Dogg. She also contributed backing vocals on the last studio album Whitney Houston ever recorded, “I Look to You” (2009).

In 2011, the singer made her acting debut in the Nigerian version of the American drama ‘For Coloured Girls,’ which was adapted for the Nigerian stage from the American production. She also made history by being the first female African singer to secure an endorsement agreement with the Pepsi beverage company. She also co-hosted the second season of ‘Nigerian Idol’ with MC IllRymz.

Savage was first aware of Nigeria’s quickly expanding Afropop movement during a meeting with Tunji Balogun, who would later become her future husband, working as an A&R operator at ‘Interscope Records’. She eventually traveled back to Nigeria to establish a solo career there, but she was met with considerable animosity upon her return. She did not give up, and shortly after, she and Balogun established ‘323 Entertainment,’ which is her record label imprint.

Soon after, ‘323 Entertainment’ started working with the recently founded record label ‘Mavin Records,’ owned by the multi-award-winning Nigerian producer Don Jazzy. Savage signed with ‘Mavin’ in 2012, and she subsequently appeared in the collection they released in 2012 titled ‘Solar Plexus.’Before following it up with ‘Ife Wa Gbona,’ ‘Without My Heart,’ and ‘Love Me (3x),’ Savage’s debut song, ‘Kele Kele Love,’ was jointly released by Mavin’ and ‘323,’ and it was met with massive success and widespread critical praise.
