Trey Songz Bio

The 28th of November, 1984 found Tremaine Aldon Neverson being brought into the world in Petersburg, Virginia. When she gave birth to him, his mother April was only 17 years old. His mother and stepfather both served in the military, and they brought him up as a military brat. Because he was an introverted child who didn’t think music was for him, he never entertained the idea of making a living as a musician when he was younger.

When Songz was just 14 years old, people began to take notice of his singing ability. When he was in high school, both his friends and his family supported and pushed him to pursue a career in the performing arts. During a talent contest in the year 2000, Troy Taylor made a professional discovery of Trey Songz, which led to the signing of a record deal. After graduating from Petersburg High School in 2003, Trey relocated to New Jersey and immediately began production on his debut studio album.

In 2002, Trey Songz started working on his debut album, but in the meanwhile, he issued several singles using the identity Prince of Virginia. I Gotta Make It, his debut studio album, was released in 2005 and debuted at position No. 20 on the Billboard 200 album chart. The album and single of the same name were both successful within the R&B and hip-hop communities, but they were not as successful within the mainstream music world.

Songz began work on a follow-up album in 2006 and enlisted the assistance of a number of other musicians, including Bryan-Michael Cox and R. Kelly, to assist him in the production of his new album. In 2007, Trey Day issued their album titled “Trey Day.” The album debuted at position No. 11 on the Billboard chart and had initial sales of 73,000 copies in its first week of release. On the chart that ranks the most popular R&B and hip-hop singles, “Wonder Woman” debuted at position No. 54 with its lead single.

His following single “Can’t Help but Wait” was featured in the film Step Up 2 Streets. Because of this, Trey Songz was able to break through into the mainstream music scene, and his record peaked at number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It was also nominated for a Grammy Award. In 2008, Trey Songz began his work on the upcoming album, and the following year Ready was published.

The album sold 131,000 copies in its first week and entered the Top 10 on Billboard 200. It also won Songz his first platinum certification. One of the tracks released in promotion of the album, titled “Successful,” was a collaboration with Drake and became an instant hit. Additionally, it was included on Drake’s album titled “So Far Gone.” Drake and Trey Songz worked together on the song “I Invented Sex,” which was also released as a single.

The Jay-Z Fall Tour included Trey Songz as the opening act in the year 2010. The same year also saw the debut of the documentary series Tray Songz: My Monet, which was met with acclaim from critics. The first season of the series focuses on Trey as he is on tour with Jay-Z. Passion, Pain & Pleasure was also the title of Songz’s fourth studio album, which was released in 2010.

The track “Bottoms Up” became Songz’s most successful release to this point and was eventually certified three times platinum. In 2011, Songz issued his extended play (EP) titled “Inevitable,” and the following year, he issued his album titled “Chapter V.” Songz went on the Anticipation 2our across the continent of North America in order to promote the record.

Trey Songz is a contemporary R&B singer, songwriter, and producer. He made his debut in the middle of the 2000s with the Top Ten R&B/hip-hop single I Gotta Make It (2005), and he quickly followed through on the creative and commercial potential that song held for him. Within the first 13 years of his career, Trey released seven albums that reached the Top 20 of the Billboard 200 chart, including the chart-topping Chapter V (2012) and Trigga (2014).

Additionally, 15 additional headline singles made the Top Ten of the R&B/hip-hop chart during this time period. He is one of the few post-millennial R&B musicians to maintain mainstream fame, and he has been nominated for a number of Grammy awards, the first of which is for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for the Stargate-produced ballad “Can’t Help But Wait.” He has also won a number of Grammy awards.

Trey has been sought out for collaborations with A-list R&B and rap singers such as Scarface, Mary J. Blige, and Toni Braxton, and he has worked with significant influences such as R. Kelly and Teddy Riley. Scarface, Mary J. Blige, and Toni Braxton are just a few of the musicians with whom Trey has collaborated. The latter made a contribution to 11 (2018), which was one of two mixtapes that were released at the same time.

However, the relationship that Trey has forged with producer Troy Taylor, who has collaborated with him all the way through Back Home (2020), his eighth album, has proven to be the most fruitful and beneficial of his partnerships. Trey obtained his diploma and promptly moved to New Jersey to work with Taylor. Soon after, the singer was featured on Kevin Lyttle’s self-titled debut and Trick Daddy’s Thug Matrimony as a sideman.

He also made his solo debut with “About the Game,” a solo cut that was included on the Coach Carter album. While he was working on his debut album — in addition to more featured work with Lil’ Kim, Trina, and Snoop Dogg — Trey released some low-key mixtapes under his moniker, the Prince of Virginia. These mixtapes focused on more street-level music. In July of 2005, major label Atlantic published his real debut album, which was titled I Gotta Make It.

This album was both accomplished and promising. It debuted at number 20 on the Billboard 200 and featured an introduction from Aretha Franklin as well as production from Taylor, Organized Noize, and Warryn Campbell. His subsequent album, Trey Day, was released in October 2007, and featured collaborations with a number of notable artists, including R. Kelly, Danja, Stargate, and Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, amongst others.

It debuted at number 11 on the Billboard 200, and its single “Can’t Help But Wait” was nominated for a Grammy Award in the category of Best Male R&B Vocal Performance. This was Trey’s most successful hit up to that moment. Ready, which was released in August of 2009, is the album that earned Trey his first gold certification from the RIAA.

The album features four singles that peaked in the top ten of the R&B/hip-hop charts. Some of the songs on the album, including “I Invented Sex” and the platinum-certified “Say Aah,” were among his most brazen moments. At the same time, his persona and sense of flow grew distinctive enough to lessen the number of parallels to R. Kelly and Usher. The collection was put in for consideration for a Grammy Award in the category of Best Contemporary R&B Album.

Passion, pain, and pleasure all came in the month of September 2010. The song “Bottoms Up,” which features Nicki Minaj as a collaborator, earned certification from the RIAA. In order to tide fans over till the release of the singer’s fifth studio album, the extended play (EP) titled Inevitable was released in November of 2011. Chapter V was released in August 2012 and debuted at number one.

The album contained verses from T.I., Lil Wayne, and Rick Ross. The highlight of the album was “Heart Attack,” which was nominated for a Grammy for Best R&B Song. At that point, Trey Songz’s guest appearances on other artists’ songs, such as Twista’s “Girls Tonite” and J. Cole’s gold “Can’t Get Enough,” could have been collected for a substantial anthology. In 2013, he contributed to yet another hit that went on to sell gold, Juicy J’s “Bounce It.”

The song was included in the movies Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3-D and Baggage Claim, and he also worked on his sixth studio album during that year. As the first singles off June’s Trigga album, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, “Na Na” and “Smartphones” were released in the beginning of 2014. Both songs were huge hits in the R&B genre.

In the years that followed, the singer issued a number of intervening albums, the most notable of which were Intermission I and II, as well as a “reloaded” version of Trigga, which ultimately became his third platinum album. At the end of 2016, an unofficial extended play titled “Trappy New Years” was released independently and featured the rapping of Fabolous.

Tremaine was Songz’s sixth proper full-length album, and it was released in March of 2017. The next year, he released the track “How Dat Sound,” which was used as the main theme for the movie Blood Brother, in which Trey Songz had a starring role. In November of the following year, he commemorated his birthday by releasing two commercial mixtapes, numbered 11 and 28, featuring guest appearances from artists such as Teddy Riley, Ty Dolla $ign, and Jeremih.

On the subsequent tape, the song “How Dat Sound” was included. A new single titled “Back Home,” which featured Summer Walker, was released in April of 2020. Six months later, it was chosen to serve as the title tune for the seventh real full-length album that Trey has released. Back Home extended the singer’s trend of releasing albums that debuted in the top 20 of the Billboard 200 chart. The album was preceded by the protest song “2020 Riots: How Many Times.”
