Wendi McLendon-Covey Bio

Wendi McLendon-Covey is a well-known American actress who was born on October 10, 1969. She is better recognized for her work in humorous and improvisational roles. Her performance as Beverly Goldberg, the matriarch of the Goldberg family, in the ABC comedy series The Goldbergs earned her two nominations for the Critics’ Choice Television Awards in the category of Best Actress in a Comedy Series. Her tenure on the show lasted from 2013 to 2023.

McLendon-Covey, who was born and raised in Long Beach, California, had a variety of occupations after completing her high school education. Additionally, she attended California State University, Long Beach, where she received her degree in the year 2000. Immediately after her graduation, she joined The Groundlings, a comedy group based in Los Angeles that specializes in improvisational comedy, and she remained a member until the year 2009.

McLendon-Covey started her career as an actress when she was still a member of the Groundlings. She began her acting career by playing the role of Deputy Clementine Johnson in the improvisational sitcom Reno 911! (2003–2008, 2020–present). In addition, she had the main part in the Lifetime comedy Lovespring International (2006), which was only on the air for a brief period. She also had supporting roles in the films Bewitched (2005) and Over Her Dead Body (2008).

Over the years 2010–2013, McLendon-Covey appeared on the CBS comedy Rules of Engagement in a repeated role. Following her breakthrough role in the comedy film Bridesmaids, which was released in 2011, McLendon-Covey has since acted in a variety of films, such as What to Expect When You’re Expecting (2012), The Single Moms Club (2014), Blended (2014), and Think Like a Man Too (2014).

The films My Name Is Doris (2015), Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween (2018), What Men Want (2019), Sylvie’s Love (2020), and Barb and Star are all upcoming films. I recommend that you visit Elemental (2023) and Vista Del Mar (2021). McLendon-Covey finally took on a main part in the 2019 indie drama film Blush, after spending years doing comedic roles.

McLendon-Covey was a classmate of comedians Kaitlin Olson, Melissa McCarthy, and Kristen Wiig when she was a member of the Groundlings. The latter two of these comedians went on to feature with McLendon-Covey in the film Bridesmaids. McLendon-Covey was a member of the Groundlings at the time, and she was always auditioning for parts in films and television shows. However, she did not have an agent at the time, so she was unable to get opportunities.

During the year 2003, she participated in an audition for the part of Deputy Clementine Johnson in the comedy series Reno 911. When I walked in, my first reaction was, “Fuck this.” But you know what? I’m not going to be able to find it. “All I’m going to do is go in and give it a shot,” she recounted. During that same period, Fox had previously entertained the idea of producing the series. Following the selection of McLendon-Covey for the part, Comedy Central decided to acquire the series for further production.

She also appeared in the comedy program Lovespring International, which aired on Lifetime in 2006, and she has done commentary for organizations such as E!, TV Guide Channel, and VH1. Reno 911! was in its third year at the time. Her other film credits include Bewitched (2005) and Over Her Dead Body (2008), both of which she featured in. In 2007, she acted in the comedy film Reno 911!: Miami, which was based on the show Reno 911! on Comedy Central.

In 2007, she acted in the indie comedy film Cook-Off!, which she also produced, wrote, and directed. In addition, McLendon-Covey has appeared as a guest star on several popular television shows, including The Office, 10 Things I Hate About You, and Cougar Town. Alongside Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne, Melissa McCarthy, and Ellie Kemper, McLendon-Covey was featured in the comedy picture Bridesmaids, which grossed a lot of money and received a lot of positive reviews.

Hillshire Farm launched a new advertising campaign in July of the same year, and she started appearing in national television commercials for the campaign. She appeared in the CBS comedy Rules of Engagement at regular intervals from the years 2010 to 2013. In addition, she appeared as a guest star on the comedy I Hate My Teenage Daughter, which aired on Fox for a brief period, at TV Land’s Hot in Cleveland, and ABC’s Modern Family.

McLendon-Covey had an appearance in the romantic comedy What to Expect When You’re Expecting, which was directed by Kirk Jones in 2012, as well as in the film Magic Mike, which was directed by Steven Soderbergh. She had roles in the Christmas comedy film A White Trash Christmas, which was about a mother who was visited by three ghosts who were determined to show her a way to a better future, and in the comedy-drama film The Breakup Girl, which was directed by Stacy Sherman, who was nominated for an Academy Award and won an Emmy. The film was about three sisters who had become estranged from each other and were dealing with the death of their father.

In February of 2012, McLendon-Covey was cast in the HBO comedy pilot The Viagra Diaries, which was produced by Darren Star, the creator of Sex and the City and executive producer of the program. However, McLendon-Covey quit the production when Goldie Hawn left the pilot. Her selection for the female lead part in the comedy pilot Only Fools and Horses on ABC came after she had received five bids for the role.

In the film The Single Moms Club (2014), directed by Tyler Perry, she also had a role as one of the main characters. A Merry Friggin’ Christmas, Blended, as Drew Barrymore’s character’s closest friend, and Think Like a Man Too were all films that she appeared in within the same year (2014). She played the daughter of Robin Williams’ character that year.McLendon-Covey was selected to play the main character in the ABC comedy series The Goldbergs, which was produced by Adam F. Goldberg. The casting took place in January 2013.
