Adekunle Gold Bio

Adekunle Gold was born on 28 January 1987 in Lagos, Nigeria. Adekunle Gold is a Nigerian high life singer, composer, and graphic designer who has won several awards for his work. Gold is a well-known figure in his native country, and he refers to the kind of music he creates as “urban highlife.”

This is because his music consciously combines modern pop, electronica, folk, and R&B elements. His first solo song, “Sade,” was a cover of One Direction’s “Story of My Life,” released in 2014; it caused a buzz on the radio stations in Lagos. After having famous Nigerian singer and songwriter Simi mix the song, he won the Best Alternative Song at the Headies competition in Nigeria the following year.

Gold, his debut long-player in 2017, peaked at number seven on the World Albums Chart, while his sophomore outing, 2018’s About 30, peaked in the Top Ten. He signed to Olamide’s YBNL Nation label (and designed its logo) and issued two Simi-mixed charting follow-ups in “Orente” and “Pick Up” before releasing Gold. Catch Me If You Can, one of his albums released in 2022, is an example of how he developed a more approachable Afropop sound.

Gold was given the name Omoba Adekunle Kosoko at birth, and he has held the title of prince in his family’s royal household in Lagos State, Nigeria, from birth. He is the nephew of Prince Jide Kosoko, a “Nollywood” actor who has achieved international renown. Even though Gold’s parents were Muslims, they allowed their four children to practice whatever religion they chose. Gold, the lone male, started his singing career by participating in the junior choir of a local church.

At 15, he wrote his first song and joined a boy band called the Bridge. The band only released a few songs before disbanding. Gold, who got the idea for his stage name while listening to a sermon delivered by a pastor, attended Lagos State Polytechnic and majored in the arts and design department, where he studied graphic arts, painting, and sculpting. The sermon inspired Gold’s stage name. After completing his education, he pursued a career in music on his own.

In 2014, he released “Sade,” mixed by the Nigerian artist Simi. This song caused radio stations in Lagos, Nigeria, and other parts of West Africa to be inundated with requests and broadcasts. It was a success on a national scale. Because Gold was responsible for designing the YBNL Nation label’s emblem, he maintained a long-standing friendship with the singer and CEO of the YBNL Nation record company.

Olamide (Adedeji). Olamide gave him a recording contract and promptly released two songs that used Simi’s mixing: “Orente” and “Pick Up.” Both were ranked. He was nominated for Most Promising Artist of the Year at the City People’s Entertainment Awards. He won Alternative Song of the Year at the Headies for “Sade” and Revelation of the Year at the continent’s AFRIMA awards. He was nominated for Most Promising Artist of the Year at the City People’s Entertainment Awards.

It is a 16-track project, and musical production for the album was handled by Pheelz, Masterkraft, B Banks, Sleekamo, Oscar, and Seyikeyz. The project was released on July 25, three days earlier than the day it was initially supposed to be released. It reached its highest position on the Billboard World Album Chart for the week of August 13, 2016, when it was first made available to the public. Adekunle Gold called his new band “The 79th Element,” which refers to the atomic number of Gold when he left YBNL Nation since his contract was about to expire. Furthermore, it received positive reviews from modern music reviewers. Adekunle Gold was introduced as Unity Bank’s brand ambassador on January 15, 2018, and the announcement was made public.

In Nigeria, the singer released his first studio album, Gold, before the end of 2016 while simultaneously releasing four additional songs rapidly. These singles were titled “Work,” “Only Girl,” “Call on Me,” and “Money.” Gold was released internationally at the beginning of 2017. It eventually reached public and college radio, as well as streaming in the United States, and it reached its highest position on the World Music Albums charts at number seven.

The album was picked up for airplay by state-run radio throughout the entirety of the African continent, as well as European stations in Germany, Norway, the Netherlands, Spain, and England. The album included his first three songs, as well as the classics “No Forget (featuring Simi)” and “Work.” Gold was a featured collaborator on the famous song “Original Gangster” with SESS and Reminisce in 2018. He also released the self-penned hit “IRE” in the same year. One year later, DJs Pheelz and El Mukuka remixed and re-released the tune twice. Gold’s sophomore album, About 30, was released to widespread acclaim worldwide.

The album includes guest appearances from artists such as Dya on the song “Down with You,” Seun Kuti on the theme “Mr. Foolish,” and Flavour N’bania on the tune “Yoyo.” The collection reached its highest position on the World Music Albums list at number nine. Gold did not squander any time. In addition to touring the country and, subsequently, the continent, he released several songs that charted up to 2019, some of which include “Kelegbe Megbe,” “Before You Wake Up,” “Adiza,” and “Promise.”

In addition, he wed his partner for many years, Simi. Early in 2020, he dropped the streaming success “Jore,” which featured Kizz Daniel. That year saw the release of his third studio album, titled Afro Pop, Vol. 1. Catch Me If You Can; The band’s fourth album was released in 2022 and included guest appearances from artists such as Ty Dolla $ign, Fatoumata Diawara, Stefflon Don, and DaVido.
