Annie Lennox is a singer famous for her unique musical style and lovely, melodic voice. These qualities have helped her become one of the most well-liked female British vocalists of the modern era. Annie Lennox, the lead singer of Eurythmics, went on to have a successful solo career when the group regarding in 1991. In the latter half of the 1970s, she was introduced to guitarist Dave Stewart by a mutual acquaintance.

Lennox was approached by Stewart, who had performed with Longdancer in the past, to become a member of the new band that Stewart was putting together with a lyricist called Peet Coombes. The band was known as the Tourists, and between 1979 and 1980, they issued three albums. In 1980, they succeeded in the United Kingdom with a rendition of Dusty Springfield’s “I Only Want to Be with You.”

Lennox and Stewart began a romantic relationship while working together in the band The Tourists. As time went on, tensions increased inside the bar, and by 1980, the two members had decided to leave and form Eurythmics on their own. The sleek synth-pop of Eurythmics became one of the most prominent new wave sounds in the early 1980s.

The band amassed several songs in both the United States and the United Kingdom during this time, including “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This),” “Love Is a Stranger,” “Who’s That Girl,” and “Here Comes the Rain Again.” Around the middle of their career, Eurythmics started working toward a rock and roll sound that was harsher and more direct.

After the economic failure caused by the publication of We Too Are One by Eurythmics in 1990, Annie Lennox revealed that she would be pausing her career for two years to have children. During this period, the band mysteriously disbanded, singer Annie Lennox gave birth to her first child, and she started working on her first solo album.

Her first solo album, Diva, was released in 1992 and highlighted a mellower, more mature voice to cross over into the adult contemporary market. Diva sold more than two million copies in the United States alone, and the album was also nominated for three Grammy awards. The songs “Walking on Broken Glass” (number 14) and “Why” (number 34) were primarily responsible for the album’s success.

In 1995, Lennox released her second solo album, Medusa, which included a selection of cover songs. After reaching its highest position at number 11, Medusa produced the hit song “No More I Love You’s” and was certified platinum by the end of 1995. Lennox left her career to focus on being a better mother and more engaged in charitable causes.

She returned with Bare, one of the finest and most intimate albums of her career, an entire eight years after the release of Medusa, which was her previous album. After another vacation, she came out with Songs of Mass Destruction in September 2007. She immediately began preparing to go on a lengthy tour throughout North America starting in October. After an absence of three years from the music industry, Lennox made her comeback with her first-holiday album, titled A Christmas Cornucopia.

In 2014, she released an album called Nostalgia, produced by Mike Stevens, and mainly included cover songs. The following year, Annie Lennox re-released the album under Nostalgia: An Evening with Annie Lennox. This version contains the original studio album and a bonus Blu-Ray disc of her live PBS event, filmed on stage at the historic Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles with a 19-piece ensemble.
