Penelope, the Dame Alice Wilton is a well-known actress in England. Beginning her career on stage, she subsequently demonstrated her talents in films and on television, earning her a reputation as one of the most versatile, respected, and sought-after performers in Britain. Penelope made her debut on stage in the West End, where she played alongside Sir Ralph Richardson. Since then, she has been a frequent cast member at the Royal Court Theatre and the National Theatre. Throughout her lengthy career in the theater, Penelope has collaborated with a number of the most renowned writers of the period, including Alan Ayckbourn. By appearing in ‘Ever Decreasing Circles,’ ‘The Borrowers,’ and later ‘Downton Abbey,’ she achieved a significant milestone in her television career.

A. Penelope The birth of Alice Wilton took place on June 3, 1946, in Scarborough, North Riding of Yorkshire. Her parents, Alice Travers, who had previously worked as an actress and tap dancer, and Clifford William Wilton, who was her husband, were businesspeople. There are two sisters in her family: Lindy and Rosemary. Penelope began her career in the theater in 1969, when she participated in shows at the Nottingham Playhouse mostly.
