Alex Shelley Bio

Alex Shelley is the ring name of Patrick Kenneth Martin, an American professional wrestler and physical therapy therapist. He was born on May 23, 1983, and is best known by his ring name, Alex Shelley. He is presently signed with TNA Wrestling (previously Impact Wrestling), where he is a former TNA World Champion. In addition to that, he has won the X Division Championship at least once and the World Tag Team Championship three times.

It was on the independent circuit, where he worked for Ring of Honor (ROH), and in Japan, where he worked for Pro Wrestling Zero1-Max, that he first received widespread recognition. In addition, he has worked for New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW), where he was a member of the Motor City Machine Guns and won the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship three times with Kushida. Additionally, he was a member of the Strong Openweight Tag Team Championship alongside Chris Sabin.

He is the main vocalist of a rock band named The High Crusade, which also features his friends and fellow wrestlers Chris Sabin and Petey Williams. In addition to his career as a wrestler, he serves as the lead singer of the band. Shelley made her debut in Ring of Honor on June 28, 2003, at WrestleRave 2003. She competed against B. J. Whitmer, Tony Mamaluke, and Jimmy Jacobs in a Four Corners Survival match, in which Whitmer ultimately prevailed.

In the course of his rivalry with Jimmy Jacobs and Matt Stryker, he made few appearances with ROH during the balance of 2003 and the beginning of 2004. Shelley brought together Austin Aries, Jack Evans, and Roderick Strong to establish a stable that she called “Generation Next” on May 22, 2004, during the Generation Next event. Shelley, who was in charge of Generation Next, said that they were “the best that Ring of Honor has to offer” and spent the duration of the event assaulting other wrestlers.

Those wrestlers who had regard for tradition, like Matt Stryker, Jimmy Rave, and R. J. Brewer, were the ones who started the war between them. Doug Williams defeated Shelley in the finals of a tournament for the vacant ROH Pure Championship on July 17, 2004, at Reborn: Completion. Shelley was unable to prevail. Generation Next assaulted Ricky Steamboat while he was having a dispute with CM Punk on the same night. CM Punk ultimately chose to side with Steamboat to defend himself from Generation Next.

This resulted in a rivalry between Generation Next and the allies of Ricky Steamboat, which culminated in an eight-man elimination match that lasted for forty-five minutes and took place at The Midnight Express Reunion on October 2. The battle pitted Generation Next against CM Punk, John Walters, Jimmy Jacobs, and Ace Steel. Shelley and Aries were the only ones to make it through the bout with Generation Next emerging victorious.

Shelley announced that he would be fighting Samoa Joe for the ROH World Championship after the bout was over. Shelley then told Aries to “remember where your loyalties lie” when he announced that he, too, was going for the championship. Shelley and Strong both suffered defeat at the hands of CM Punk and Steve Corino on December 26, 2004, at the Final Battle 2004 event.

After the bout, Aries, who had the impression that Shelley was devoting an excessive amount of time to Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) rather than heading Generation Next, made his way to the ring and requested that Shelley stand down from his position as the leader. During the time that Shelley was unable to respond, he was assaulted by Aries and Strong, and he was expelled from Generation Next. As a result, he became a fan favorite.

Shelley engaged in a rivalry with Generation Next at the beginning of 2005, and on May 7, she attempted to challenge Aries for the ROH World Championship at Manhattan Mayhem. However, she was unsuccessful. During the tag match that took place on July 23, Shelley faced off against Aries and Strong, and he chose a partner who remained a mystery. In a promotional event that took place behind the scenes, Shelley offered some conjecture about the identity of his partner, stating that it may be a new wrestler who was making their debut in Ring of Honor.

In subsequent statements, he disclosed that he had not brought anybody into ROH, but rather that he had joined “The Embassy,” a heel stable that was under the direction of Prince Nana. On that particular evening, The Embassy teamed up with Fast Eddie Vegas and emerged victorious in their first bout in a rivalry with Generation Next that would continue for the rest of the year. The feud reached its climax on December 3, when Austin Aries and Roderick Strong competed in a steel cage match with eight competitors and eliminated one of them.

Generation Next’s Jack Evans and Matt Sydal were victorious against Shelley, Jimmy Rave, Abyss, and Nana, who were members of The Embassy organization. During the Hell Freezes against event that took place on January 14, 2006, Shelley and Rave worked together to triumph against the team consisting of Claudio Castagnoli and Azrieal. After Bryan Danielson had successfully defended his ROH World Championship against Chris Hero, Prince Nana made an offer the next evening to purchase the championship from Danielson.

Shelley gave Danielson a Sliced Bread #2 and said that it was his “Kryptonite” since Danielson’s long-time opponent and former member of the Embassy, Spanky, used the technique to beat him on several times. This occurred after Danielson refused to sell it. Shelley’s assault on Danielson was a result of The Embassy’s attack. This is the show that comes after it, The Embassy of Shelley.

In the finals of the 2006 Trios Tournament, Rave and Abyss defeated Generation Next, which consisted of Jack Evans and Matt Sydal, along with their partner Jimmy Yang. As a result, each wrestler was allowed to compete in any match they wanted. Shelley and Rave both declared that they desired to compete for the ROH World Championship by winning the tournament.

Shelley was planning to compete against Danielson for the championship on February 11, but a heavy snowfall struck the Northeast. As a result, Total Nonstop Action Wrestling advised Shelley to travel back to Orlando, Florida, early so that he would not miss their pay-per-view event the following day. Shelley agreed to do so. One month later, at Arena Warfare, Shelley would ultimately receive his opportunity at the championship, but he would not be able to compete against Danielson and win.

As a result of the Briscoe Brothers’ victory in the ROH World Tag Team Championship on March 30, 2007, he made his comeback to ROH with Chris Sabin. The two individuals challenged Jay Briscoe to a fight for the championship on April 28 in Chicago, and when he accepted their offer, they assaulted him. In the end, the two would be unsuccessful in their match and would quit the organization.

Shelley and Sabin made their comeback to Royal Holloway in April of 2008, where they had a loss against The Age of the Fall, which consisted of Jimmy Jacobs and Tyler Black, and a victory over the Briscoe Brothers, who consisted of Jay and Mark, on the 18th and 19th of January, respectively. Shelley and Sabin made their comeback to ROH once again in August of 2008, when they wrestled Austin Aries and Bryan Danielson to a draw after a time limit of 25 minutes. However, they were defeated by Kevin Steen and El Generico in the first and second consecutive matches, respectively.
